In the Sutra of..., then Manjushri, having become a youth, spoke thus to the evil Mara: "Evil one, who released you? Tell me, by whom were you bound?" He said, "Manjushri, I do not know by whom I was bound." He said, "Evil one, just as you perceive yourself as unbound, so too, all childish ordinary people perceive impermanence as permanence, perceive suffering as happiness, perceive selflessness as self, perceive impurity as purity, perceive formlessness as form, perceive feelings, etc., as non-existent, thoughts, etc., as non-existent, actions, etc., as non-existent, consciousness, etc., as non-existent, and perceive feelings, thoughts, actions, and consciousness as existent." Furthermore, evil one, if you were to be liberated, from what would you be liberated? He said, "I cannot be liberated even from myself." He said, "Likewise, evil ones, those who will be liberated, if they do not fully understand the incorrect perceptions, will not be liberated from anything. Only after fully understanding that is it called liberation." Having said this, according to this scripture, merely by reversing the misapprehension of what is not true, the vines of bondage are completely severed, and this is called liberation and nirvana, just as a burning fire dreamed in a dream is extinguished by water. Thus it is said. Third, in the commentary on the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, called "Rays of True Seeing," the chapter called "Examination of Bondage and Liberation" is the commentary on the sixteenth chapter. Second, to prove it, there are three refutations of cause and effect. First, the connection of the proposition is: even if samsara is refuted in this way, it still exists. The sutra says, "The actions I have done, I will experience individually." Because karma and its result exist. If the agent or the previous person did not come here, and if the cycle of going from here to the next life did not exist, then it would be impossible for karma and the results of karma to arise sequentially. In order to refute this assertion, and to show that karma and its results do not have inherent existence, this proposition is presented. Second, the treatise on the proposition is divided into two parts. The first is to prove it with reason, which is divided into two parts: the aspect of karma and its results being established by their own nature.

Record. Analyze and refute it in detail. The first part has two aspects: the classification of karma, and the principle of avoiding eternalism and nihilism. The first part has three aspects: explaining good karma, dividing karma into three types, and dividing karma into seven types. The first part is: the person (Sanskrit: pudgala), who is postulated based on the aggregates, whose nature is the mind that properly protects killing and other evil deeds through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, the four means of attraction, and the mind that benefits others by saving them from fear, etc., and the mind of loving-kindness that wishes others to have happiness, these are the dharmas that can save from falling into the evil realms, and they are the seeds that can accomplish the desirable fruits in this life and the next, because they help to obtain unique fruits. Here, some ancient scholars also implicitly applied it to non-virtuous karma, but in the commentary it says: Like this, temporarily determine one dharma that is the nature of mind, and then the Bhagavan, the supreme sage, said: The karmas are. Connecting in this way, it explains the only one dharma. The second part is: the supreme sage who realizes the ultimate truth and surpasses other noble ones, in general, the Buddha said that karma is divided into two types: karma of thought and karma after thought. The differences between these two karmas are widely proclaimed. Among these two, the karma of thought that is spoken of refers to intention, because it exists in intention, or is the thought corresponding to intention. The karma after thought that is spoken of is considered to be the karma of body and speech, because it exists in body and speech, or is the thought that runs simultaneously with body and speech. The third part is: if they are classified in detail, they can also be divided into seven types, namely the speech of words and the action of the body, which are the two revealing karmas of good and non-virtuous. And the non-revealing karma of not abandoning non-virtuous deeds such as killing, which is non-restraint. And the non-revealing karma of abandoning evil deeds such as killing, which is restraint. Other non-revealing karmas are also considered to be like the former, divided into two types: good and non-virtuous. Because of offering enjoyment, after the Sangha and others enjoy it, the merit that arises from the continuum of the giver.
