This is refutation. First, if examined in the three times, then cessation will not become cessation, because the action of cessation has ceased and is non-existent. What has not ceased will also not become cessation, because the action of cessation has not arisen. What is ceasing will also not become cessation like the previous two, because it is impossible for there to be a ceasing other than the two, and because it would be a fault of being two actions of cessation. Furthermore, how can what has not arisen become cessation? It should be connected as before. Second, briefly, for a thing that is abiding, cessation is not reasonable, because there is an action of abiding that contradicts it. For a thing that is not abiding, cessation is also not reasonable, because it is separated from abiding. Third, if it is desired that the effect arises from the cessation of the cause, then does the cause cease by the state of the cause itself or by the state of the other effect? If it is like the former, then the state of the cause, such as milk, will not cause that state itself to cease, because it is contradictory to act on itself. If it is like the latter, then the state of the other effect, such as yogurt, will also not cause the state of the cause, milk, to cease, because they do not come into contact with each other. Fourth, if it is thought that the cause, such as milk, has the nature of cessation, because its effect, yogurt, arises, then it has been clearly shown that the cessation of all phenomena, such as the cause, milk, is also not reasonable, that is, at the time when it has already been said that the arising of all phenomena, such as the effect, yogurt, is not reasonable. Fifth, again, is cessation conceived as something that exists or does not exist? Here, briefly, for something that exists, cessation is not reasonable, because if the supporting thing and the negating non-thing are one, then it is not reasonable as a thing, and if the non-thing of the dharma cessation is one with the supporting thing, then it is not reasonable as a non-thing. If it is like the latter, then for what has become a non-thing, cessation is also not reasonable, because there is no support. For example, how can one cut off two heads from a person with one head? It is the same. Sixth, again, if it is desired that cessation is a different entity that acts as the cessation maker of conditioned dharmas, then does cessation cease by its own nature or by another cessation?

Moreover, cessation is not caused by its own self-nature, nor by anything else, because there is a contradiction between acting and being acted upon in itself, and it would fall into an endless state. Just as arising is not created by itself and others. Second, it shows that the basis of conditioned phenomena is excluded by it: Even so, even though the three characteristics are excluded by conditioned phenomena, if it is thought that the internal and external things such as form and feeling, which are the basis, exist, that is not right. According to the way described before, since the characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing are not established by their own nature, therefore, the basis of conditioned phenomena, such as form, etc., is also established as being without self-nature. Third, it shows that the unconditioned is excluded by it: If we analyze according to the way described above, conditioned phenomena do not exist, and since they are not completely established, how can the unconditioned be established? Because the negation of what is to be negated is negated, then the negator will not be established. As it is said in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "The unconditioned is completely secluded, those sages have no discrimination. Beings universally obtain the unconditioned, pure views are completely secluded." Therefore, nowadays in Tibet, some people say that the theories of the Mind-Only school are the theories of the Middle Way school, and they claim that the unconditioned, the Dharmadhatu, is truly established as the ultimate view of the Middle Way. These nonsense talkers should think about these sutras and treatises. Third, eliminating the contradiction of scriptures regarding the meaning of negation: If so, then the Great Cloud Sutra says: "Bhikkhus, conditioned phenomena also appear as arising, and also appear as changing from destruction and abiding." Does this contradict? No, it is not said from the ultimate meaning, but like a dream, like an illusion, like a Gandharva city, although there is no arising, abiding, and ceasing, but just as it appears there, the phenomena of conditioned phenomena also appear as arising, also appear as abiding, also appear as ceasing, only appearing in delusion, therefore it is said from the provisional meaning, so it does not contradict. Or, like a dream, arising, etc., connect separately. Second, combining with the scriptures, the sutra says: "This body, composed of skin, tendons, flesh, and bones, thinking it is my wife, after generating such a thought, a foolish child."
