Also because it cannot generate other births. Because the birth of birth is arising, so for generating the root birth, it should also be said in the same way. For the remaining two, it should also be added, "If your abiding place, the root abiding is abiding," and so on. The second has two parts: stating the refutation of faults, and refuting it. The first: The Sutra School says, the characteristics of conditioned phenomena are arising, abiding, and ceasing. Because there are no other characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing, it will not become infinite, nor will it become unconditioned. Just as a lamp has the nature of illuminating, so it illuminates both itself and others. Similarly, the function of birth is also the nature of birth, so it can generate both itself and other things. Similarly, abiding also makes both itself and others abide, and ceasing also makes both itself and others cease, and these should also be added. The second has two parts: the example is not established, and the meaning is unreasonable. The first has two parts: refuting because the pervasion is not ascertained, and refuting because it is too extreme. The first: If analyzed in detail, the example of a lamp illuminating itself and others is not established. Thus, the lamp, as a subject, illuminates what of itself and others? Because it has not dispelled the darkness of itself and others. Because light and darkness are contradictory in the same place, so the lamp and those other places, when the lamp is there, there is no darkness to be dispelled. If it is thought that even if darkness is not dispelled, it is still an illuminator, what contradiction is there? This is also unreasonable, because in the world, it is said that what dispels darkness is the illuminator. If it is said that the lamp that has already arisen cannot dispel darkness, but the lamp that is arising can dispel the darkness of itself and others. How can the lamp that is arising dispel darkness? At what time, for what reason, is the lamp that is arising not encountering darkness? If it is thought that even if the lamp does not encounter it, it can still dispel darkness, the pervasion is uncertain. If that is the case, then the lamp here, as a subject, will dispel all the darkness that exists in all places in the world, such as continents, because the non-encounter is the same. Second: If the lamp is an illuminator, so it can illuminate both itself and other things, then darkness also, as a subject, both itself and other things

There is no doubt that obscuration will occur, because it is an obscurer. If admitted, since darkness obscures itself, it will not be seen. The second part is divided into two points: refuting arising itself, and refuting arising others. The first point is, if arising arises itself, then is it arisen by something that has not yet arisen or has already arisen? If it is the former, then this arising, as the subject of the proposition, how does it arise its own essence? Because it itself has not yet arisen. If it is thought that it is arisen by itself that has already arisen, then this arising, as the subject of the proposition, what can be arisen? Because it already exists. The second part is divided into two points: examining karma in the three times, thereby refuting; examining whether there are other arisings for arising, thereby refuting. The first part is divided into three points: generally refuting the arising of karma in the three times, separately refuting the arising that is arising, and eliminating the fault of not being able to arise dependently. The first point is: if the action of arising arises other conditioned dharmas, such as a vase, then does it arise something that has already arisen, has not yet arisen, or is arising? For this, having arisen, not yet arisen, arising, in any case, cannot arise. This is like separating and explaining gone, not gone, and going, because this is the same as the examination of the three times. The second point is: if it is said that there is a vase that is arising that is different from what has arisen and has not arisen, because it has the action of arising. Then, if it is thought that it is arisen by other arising, then, since the vase as the basis has not yet arisen, therefore the action of arising of the vase that depends on it does not exist. In this case, how can it be said that "depending on the action of arising, this vase is arising"? Because if there is some action of arising at some time, then the vase related to it can be called "arising". However, this arising is not the essence of reason without an agent, because the vase as the basis does not exist, therefore there is no action of arising. The third point is: your own sect, the Bhagavan said: "Here there is no self or sentient being, these dharmas all have causes." In this way, it reveals that it is far from the eternal, single, independent person conjectured by the heretics, and in the way of dependent arising, it only reveals the impermanent dharma. And you
