He does not truly see and does not perceive that dharma which is attached to me, and by what is attached, and who is hated, and to whom is hated, and by what is hated, and what is ignorant, and to whom is ignorant, and by what becomes ignorant. Because he does not truly see and does not perceive that dharma, therefore there is no attachment, no hatred, no ignorance, the mind is not inverted, it is called equanimity. It is called transcendence, reaching the other shore. It is called attaining bliss. It is called attaining fearlessness, and from there it is called the exhaustion of outflows. Without afflictions, having become powerful, the mind is अत्यंत liberated, wisdom is अत्यंत liberated, the knower, the great elephant, the deed has been done, the doing has been done, the burden has been cast off, one's own benefit has been attained, all existence is completely exhausted, the mind is liberated by correct knowledge, it is called the śramaṇa who has reached the supreme other shore of all the powers of the mind. Thus, it is extensively taught. Similarly, whoever knows that the nature of desire, hatred, pride, and ignorance arises from conceptual thought and enters perversely, does not engage in conceptual thought, does not become attached, and the unchanging practice, those abidings are all things. Thus it is said. The method of teaching should be understood as before. Third, the commentary on the Root Wisdom of the Middle Way, called "The Light of Correct View," is the examination of desire and attachment, which is the explanation of the sixth chapter. Second, there are three aspects to refuting the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. First, the connection of this chapter is that the nature of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases, which are conditioned phenomena, is existent. As it is said in the Great Cloud Sutra: "Monks, these three are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena: conditioned phenomena are manifestly arising, ceasing, abiding, and changing." It is said that because arising, abiding, and ceasing are the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, and their nature exists, so it is thought. In order to refute that these are established by their own nature, this chapter is composed. Second, there are two parts to the text of this chapter. First, there are three aspects to establishing through reasoning: refuting the self-establishment of conditioned phenomena, thereby negating unconditioned phenomena.

Refutation of Other Tenets. Regarding the meaning of refutation, it is to eliminate contradictions in teachings and reasoning. The first has two aspects: refuting the three characteristics of arising, abiding, and ceasing. This shows that the entity, conditioned phenomena, is refuted. The first has two aspects: common refutation and individual refutation. The first has three aspects: refuting after examining whether it is conditioned or unconditioned, refuting after examining whether individual or collective can represent it, and refuting after examining whether there are other characteristics. The first is: refuting the Vaibhashika school. For example, a vase is represented as a conditioned phenomenon, and the three, arising, abiding, and ceasing, reside as its characteristics. They also say that arising, etc., are entities different in nature from the entity. Thus, one should discern whether arising is the characteristic of conditioned or unconditioned phenomena. If arising is a conditioned phenomenon, then like a vase, it should also possess the three characteristics of arising, etc., because it is a conditioned phenomenon. This cannot be accepted, because in that case, it would become the entity of conditioned phenomena, and thus its characteristic nature would be violated. If arising is an unconditioned phenomenon, then how can it be the characteristic of conditioned phenomena? Like space, it cannot exist in the entity of conditioned phenomena. For the remaining two, one should also combine them in the same way, such as "if abiding is a conditioned phenomenon," etc. The second is: discerning the characteristics of the three phenomena, whether individual or collective. As in the first case, the three, arising, etc., individually, that is, individual entities, cannot serve as the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, because they are separated from two phenomena and become unconditioned phenomena. Moreover, the unarisen, the non-abiding at its own time, and the permanent cannot become conditioned phenomena. As in the second case, how can those three be combined in one object at one time? Because their functions are contradictory, like light and darkness. The third has two aspects: establishing the fault of extreme consequences, and refuting the removal of that fault. The first is: Furthermore, if arising, abiding, and ceasing also have other characteristics of conditioned phenomena, such as arising, abiding, and ceasing, then the characteristics of conditioned phenomena would become endless, because they would also need to have other characteristics of conditioned phenomena. If the three, arising, etc., have no other characteristics, then they would become unconditioned phenomena, because they are separated from the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. If accepted, then
