. Since the unborn has no basis, it has no function. Apart from the born and the unborn, there is also no function for what is being born. Therefore, if examined in the three times, there is no function that possesses conditions. According to the second view, that phenomenon (referring to function) does not arise from lacking conditions, because even in the mere appearance of not being examined, there is no function that lacks conditions. If it is thought that the conditions themselves produce the effect, then, the entity of the result, if examined for possessing or not possessing function, is not produced by the conditions alone. If it does not possess the function of producing the result, then there is no reason to establish conditions, therefore it is not the conditions themselves. However, if there are conditions that possess function, even if it is thought that it will produce the result, the possession of function and conditions has already been negated when examining the three times of the result. The third view is: What is the use of such examination? Because, as said, relying on the four conditions such as eye and form, consciousness and sprouts etc. are produced, therefore, these are said to be the conditions of this and are widely known. If it is said that the four conditions, when the collection of favorable conditions is not complete, or when obstructed by unfavorable conditions, the result does not arise, then how are these not the conditions of the result? It should follow that the conditions are not conditions, because they do not possess the function of producing the reason for establishing conditions. Examining the same principle from the perspective of the result, if those conditions produce the result, then are they producing a result that did not exist before, or a result that existed before? Among them, for the case where the result does not exist, conditions are not reasonable, because if there is no result, then like a father without a son, whose conditions would they be? Because there is no basis. For the case where the result existed before, conditions are also not reasonable, because like lacquer on a wooden bowl, things that are already completed do not need to be done again, what is the use of conditions? Because it is meaningless. The fourth part has four aspects: refuting the definition of the causal condition, refuting the definition of the objective condition, refuting the definition of the immediate condition, refuting the definition of the dominant condition. First, even so, the Blessed One said "That which accomplishes is the cause" etc., separately proclaiming the respective definitions of the four conditions, therefore, these conditions exist by their own nature.

Nono. If, assuming that some of the fruits to be established are established, then, the condition of the cause that makes its own nature established exists, in which case, if the dharma of the fruit to be established is an already existing establishment, then how can it be called the condition of the cause that makes the nature of the fruit established? Because it has already been established. Similarly, when neither non-existence nor existence and non-existence are established, how can it be called the cause that makes the nature of the fruit established? Because it cannot be established, and it contradicts both, it will become the fault of establishing both. If the fruit is not the cause of establishing the fruit, then, because it has the characteristic of the condition of the cause, saying that it is the cause is not understanding the matter. Second, is the object of cognition existent or non-existent to recognize the condition of the object? First, refute the first case: half of the front and back are reversed, if the fruit, the existing dharma of mind and mind-born is dharma, how can it exist depending on the condition of the object? Because if there is no object, that is, it already existed before it. Therefore, for this dharma that originally existed, you are just showing yourself to be close to having the condition of the object. That's what it says. Refuting the object condition where the object does not exist: the fruit, this dharma where the object does not exist, has become merely the condition where the object does not exist, but you are only showing it to have the condition of the object. What is that? If this dharma has no object, that is, because there is no dharma as the object, then how can its object exist? Third, the one that immediately produces the fruit after the cause has ceased is not aware of the immediately following condition. If the dharmas of the fruit such as sprouts have not arisen, that is, before they have arisen, it is impossible for the dharmas of the cause such as seeds to cease, therefore the cause will not cease before the fruit has arisen. However, even if the cause ceases before the fruit has arisen, then what is the condition for the subsequent fruit to arise? No, because cessation is non-existence. Fourth, if there is an object other than the three conditions, then this fruit will arise, which is the characteristic of the self-generating cause.
