The answer to this has two parts: the equality of reasons being the same, and the refutation of the opposite being the same. The first is: Given that other things are equal, what is the reason for the difference that one truly arises and one does not? When asked, there are three answers: appearance, ability, and nature. The first cannot be an answer because: If it is thought that it is seen so manifestly. Although the confused mind that has not been examined sees it that way, if one wants to use this to determine the vision of the noble Samadhi, then when examined with wisdom, this cannot be an answer. Although it appears to arise, it cannot be established as arising in things, which is the same as dreams, etc., which you both acknowledge. The second cannot be an answer because: If it is thought that because of having ability and not having ability, arising and not arising are so certain. This also cannot be an answer, because for the confused mind, appearance is the same as dreams, etc. As it says in the Bodhicitta Commentary: Relying on the same to function, is it not like the harm of a dream? In the state of waking from a dream, there is no difference in functioning. It is said like this. The third cannot be an answer because: If it is thought that in other respects the same, arising and not arising is the nature of things, or the greatness of dependent origination. This also cannot be an answer, because if it is nature, it needs to be without harm and with establishment, but because the confused mind sees arising and not arising, arising and not arising cannot be established as nature in things, and there is no other establishment either. Therefore, when other things are equal, if one examines the reason for truly arising and not arising, no one can find it, so taking other things equal as a reason, arising and not arising are equalized. If that is the case, in the case of karma being the same, the certainty of ripening, etc., all the conventional certainties that you Madhyamikas yourselves acknowledge will become unreasonable. If you say so, when we examine, there is no certainty of self-character in the conventional, but in the face of the confused mind that has not been examined, karma and result, etc., appear without confusion, only in this appearance, it is said in the conventional that karma and result, etc., are certain, how can they be the same? Just as you think that other-power is real.

etc. are displayed. Second, the inference of a single reverse is that although the sprout is the same as both, it grows from the seed. If someone says that fire and coal do not grow, so it is not universal, then if you do not have a universally valid sign, your autosuggestion sign will disappear. If it exists, it should be asked what it is. If there is only smoke, then fire is universally present, such as in the kitchen. If someone says that there is only smoke in some places, then even in the kitchen that is the same as the smoke, fire is universally present in the smoke, but since it is suspected that fire is not universally present in the mountain, how can it not be uncertain? If someone says that since fire is universally present in the smoke of the kitchen, therefore, the same smoke as the smoke is also universally present in fire, then here, only from the other aspects of the seed, the growth of the sprout is universal. Therefore, why not admit that the other aspects of fire and coal that are the same as the seed are also universally present in the growth of the sprout? If it is said that only the life of a cow is universally present with dewlap, then the life of a human being that is the same as life is also universally present with dewlap, so all worldly concepts are unreasonable. If it is said that this is not universally present, then it is the same here. When reasoning is analyzed, saying the same reason, all arguments are known to others, not admitted by oneself, so one can be freed from all errors. Second, negating arising from another by analysis: If it arises from a cause that has become another, it will become causeless. If it does not arise from a cause that has ceased, cause and effect will arise simultaneously. Similarly, if it arises from the encounter of another, cause and effect will arise simultaneously. If it arises without encountering, then at the time of the result, the cause does not exist, so the result will arise from no cause. Second, negating arising from another in name: Even in front of unanalyzed worldly people, there is no arising from another. Because worldly people only see the result arising from the cause, and do not see them as different things. Otherwise, just planting the seed of a child, one would say: This child was created by me. Just planting the seed of a tree, one would say: This tree was planted by me.
