etc., cannot exist until the end of life, because there is no consciousness that can fully hold them. For example, like a dead body. Third, the sutra says: Consciousness and name and form exist in a mutually dependent manner like a spear and a house. This is also unreasonable, because other than the Alaya consciousness, there is no other consciousness that can serve as the basis of name and form. Fourth, the food of consciousness on which sentient beings of the three realms depend will be missing, because sense consciousness does not exist in the formless realm, and mind consciousness is also interrupted in the five unconscious states, so it cannot be used as food for consciousness. Second, it is unreasonable to connect rebirth in the state of meditative absorption, that is, after dying from here, taking rebirth in the state of meditative absorption. Connecting rebirth in the state of meditative absorption is unreasonable because the consciousness of that place is the action of afflictions that are not in meditative absorption. If there is no Alaya consciousness, there is no seed that can become the cause of the arising of such consciousness. Third, specifically analyzing the formless realm: Whatever good and afflicted minds arise in the continuum of sentient beings born in the four formless realms will arise without cause, because there is no consciousness that serves as the basis for maturing the seeds of good qualities such as faith and afflictions such as attachment. Second, death transference is unreasonable: When those who do good and those who do evil transfer at death, they gradually lose warmth, first from the soles of the feet and the crown of the head, respectively. This is unreasonable, because there is no other consciousness to do this. The inference that the three kinds of pervasive afflictions are unreasonable has been explained. Now, the unreasonable nature of purification is discussed in two parts. First, worldly purification is unreasonable, that is, it is unreasonable to be free from attachment to desire, etc. This is because, without attachment to desire, one cannot attain the samadhi of the form realm. Therefore, in the virtuous mind arising from activities in the desire realm,

When striving to separate desire from attachment, that mind also cannot become its seed because it does not leave behind any imprints, as it arises and ceases together with the mind that operates in the form aggregate. Moreover, the mind that operates in the form aggregate, having been interrupted by many different types of consciousness from countless past lives, also cannot become the seed of the present meditative mind because it has passed and no longer exists. If the ālaya-vijñāna (storehouse consciousness) does not exist, then transcendence of the world is also impossible. As it is said, "Discrimination of other sounds, and individual proper attention, from such a cause arises correct view." That teaching is also impossible. The owner's cause and the cause of arising of the first moment of the uncontaminated, called correct view, are both impossible. The five reasonings that appear in the Compendium on the Great Vehicle have been explained. Thirdly, again, in the determination of the five aggregates, four reasons for establishment are stated, namely, the two samādhis, and when arising from the state of non-perception, the entering consciousness arises, because there is no other cause of arising for it, so it arises from the ālaya-vijñāna. And the statement, "Because it enters into another form depending on the object-condition," that form depends on the object-condition, and also depends on the cause of arising, and that is also the seed of the ālaya-vijñāna. And the statement, "Because it arises after ceasing," when awakening from sleep and fainting, the entering consciousness arises from the ālaya-vijñāna. Entering into saṃsāra and returning from saṃsāra are also because the ālaya-vijñāna exists. If the ālaya-vijñāna does not exist, then entering is impossible, because the cause of action cannot produce consciousness, and so on. Returning is also impossible, because the return of abandoning the seeds of affliction, when the antidote mind arises, there is no object to be abandoned because there is no seed to be abandoned. The antidote mind itself cannot be mixed with the seeds of affliction, because it is naturally pure, and it would be a fault of being unable to be an antidote. In the Compendium on the Great Vehicle, it is said that because it is similar to that, transformation is impossible, as it says: The mind of a good Bodhisattva, having abandoned the five consciousnesses, from the clear place other than that, how is the mind
