The limbs of it are seeing and, knowledge and creation, agitation and understanding, the seventh is that which causes entry. Thus it is said. Among these, the limb of existence should not be other than the ālaya-vijñāna, because others besides it cannot perform actions such as taking a body. The second is intelligence, even those who follow a teaching devoid of intelligence with faith will not develop confidence, what need is there to mention those who follow the Dharma? Therefore, it is necessary to speak of intelligence, and there are three types of intelligence: the eight intelligences that appear in the Compendium, the five intelligences that appear in the Summary of the Great Vehicle, and the four intelligences that appear in the Pan-ken. The first is: In the Compendium of Determinations, it says: 'Taking and removing doubts, seed, karma, and bodily sensation, mindless absorption and, likewise, death and change are not permissible.' Thus it is said. Among these, the first is: The continuum of sentient beings, is the subject to be established, there is no taking of a body, because there is no ālaya-vijñāna. If it is said that it is not definite, and that the six entering consciousnesses take it? This is not permissible for five reasons, namely, the ālaya-vijñāna arises from the cause of the previous action of the previous life, and the entering consciousnesses arise from the condition of the present life, so when that body is taken, it has not yet arisen and is non-existent, as it is said: 'By the power of the senses, objects, and attention, the consciousnesses enter.' Thus, in the teachings famous among the schools, it was taught. If so, when distinguishing the limbs of consciousness, what is consciousness due to the condition of action? If it is said that consciousness is the six consciousnesses? How is it taught like that? It is said with reference to the seed consciousness of the six entering consciousnesses, in the manner of entering, showing the cause by the result, like the touch of hunger and thirst. Thus. The first. Again, the six entering consciousnesses, because they focus on virtue and non-virtue, do not arise from the cause of previous action, for if they did, they would only have to become unspecified ripening. The second. Again, among the six entering consciousnesses, there is no unspecified ripening included, because such a thing is not perceived from what is visible. Therefore, it does not arise from the cause of previous karma, so it cannot take a body.

Agreed. Third. Furthermore, the six entering consciousnesses should not take and hold the body because their respective locations are fixed. From whatever location the eye consciousness and so on arise, that is what the consciousness grasps, and it becomes like wood because it does not grasp others. It should not be like that, because the body's senses pervade everything, so do you think the senses hold it? That body sense should not hold another body, because it is also separated from consciousness, so it is not grasped. Thus, whatever tangible object the body measures, even if it can be grasped by the body consciousness, it will not grasp others. Fourth. Also, it would be a fault of repeatedly grasping the body, because the eye consciousness and so on do not arise during sleep and fainting, so at that time, because it is not grasped, it rots like a corpse, and when waking up and becoming clear, it would be a fault of taking the body again. It is also unreasonable to do so, because it has been promised that one only grasps the body once in a lifetime. That's what it says. Fifth. The second is that there is also a fault in saying that there is an ālaya-vijñāna (store consciousness). If it exists, then sometimes entering consciousness also arises, so would two consciousnesses arise simultaneously? It is accepted, like this, some people want to see up to discernment, and there is no difference in the combination of their mental activity, the six senses, and the six objects, so any one consciousness should not arise first, because there is no difference in the combination of the causes of all consciousnesses. In the Pramāṇavārttika (Commentary on Valid Cognition), it says: "Here, all meanings and at the same time, if the aggregate senses are present." This refutes the statement of one's own school and some heretics that multiple consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously in one continuum, but that they arise and cease rapidly, so they are confused as simultaneous. These should also be known in detail in the Pramāṇavārttika. If so, the two discernments arise at the same time, but there is no place and no opportunity, so is what was said contradictory to the Holy Teachings? That refers to the fact that two consciousnesses of the same type do not arise simultaneously, as it says in the Pramāṇavārttika: "They only from the same type, the ability is definitely transformed." Like that. Third, if the consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously, then the mind's discernment should not clearly grasp the object in seeing. Why is that? Like this, if one eye consciousness and so on arises, then its second moment
