There are doubts about the objects to be transformed, and in the continuums of ordinary beings, such as doubting whether there is fire behind the kitchen, etc., there are countless situations. Therefore, to consider doubt as a general affliction, and especially to consider it as pervading what is abandoned by the path of seeing, is completely without any examination of doctrine or reasoning. View, belonging to the category of wisdom, is a mental factor that thoroughly distinguishes things in a way that does not accord with the reality of the object. If classified, there are five: view of the aggregates, which is the mental factor of truly regarding the five aggregates of appropriation as self and what belongs to self; view of holding to extremes, which is the mental factor of truly regarding the five aggregates of appropriation as permanent or impermanent; view of holding views as supreme, which is the mental factor of truly regarding views and the place of views as supreme; view of holding to ethics and asceticism as supreme, which is the mental factor of truly regarding ethics and asceticism and their place as liberation; wrong view, which is mostly the mental factor of denying the cause and effect of actions. The near afflictions have two sets of ten, in the first set of ten: anger, which is a mental factor of mental torment belonging to the category of hatred; resentment, which is a mental factor of not abandoning the thought of cherishing anger; concealment, which is a mental factor of hiding faults belonging to the category of ignorance; vexation, which is a mental factor of mental torment belonging to the category of hatred, preceded by anger and resentment; jealousy, which is a mental factor of not being able to bear the excellence of others' perfections belonging to the category of hatred; miserliness, which is a mental factor of mentally clinging to possessions belonging to the category of desire; deceit, which is a mental factor of showing qualities that are not there belonging to the category of either desire or ignorance; cunning, which is a mental factor of properly maintaining faults belonging to the category of either desire or ignorance; pride, which is a mental factor of feeling happy in mind upon seeing the perfections that are contaminated; harm, which is a mental factor of not having compassion belonging to the category of hatred. In the second set of ten: shamelessness, which is a mental factor belonging to the category of any of the three poisons, not

Not being ashamed arises from any of the three poisons, the state of mind that does not fear others for things that should not be done. Shamelessness arises from any of the three poisons, the state of mind that does not fear oneself for things that should not be done. Agitation belongs to desire, the mind chasing after pleasant appearances, the state of mind that is not calm. Disbelief belongs to ignorance, the state of mind that does not believe in or does not like or does not desire virtuous dharmas. Laziness belongs to ignorance, the state of mind that is not happy with virtuous dharmas. Negligence belongs to any of the three poisons, staying in a state of laziness, not cultivating virtuous dharmas, and not guarding the mind from contaminated dharmas. Forgetfulness is mindfulness associated with afflictions. Non-intelligence is wisdom associated with afflictions. Distraction belongs to any of the three poisons, the state of mind that wanders outward. Sleep, one of the four transformations, belongs to ignorance, relying on the cause of sleep, the state of mind that contracts the mind. Regret belongs to ignorance, the state of mind that regrets in the heart for good deeds, bad deeds, or neutral deeds that have been done. Seeking arises from relying on attention or wisdom, the state of mind that roughly seeks everywhere. Investigation arises from relying on attention or wisdom, the state of mind that examines each individually in detail. Therefore, in this treatise, just as water and water waves are, the differences in how the mind itself holds things in different ways are established as different mental factors, so it is the main reason for establishing that there is no other entity outside of the mind. Second, from the way it is said in the Abhidharmakośa: Verse: Distinguishing by way of categories, Depending on realms and grounds, In whose retinue does who arise, Similarities of sameness and difference, Sameness of difference and similarities, These four aspects summarize this meaning. That is to say, first, distinguishing from the perspective of categories, dividing into five definite categories and one indefinite category, totaling six. First, for the definite categories, if calculated from the terms mentioned in the Abhidharmakośa, it is easy to understand, namely the five omnipresent and the five object-determined, these ten are mainly mind.
