Because the way of entering is different. The other four views are not possessed, because they possess the view of self and permanence, so they do not possess the two substances of wisdom. The three co-emergent views are abandoned by the path of seeing, while the mind is abandoned by the path of cultivation. The way of possessing the twenty near afflictions is that the first of the tenth, anger, resentment, vexation, jealousy, and harm enter in the form of displeasure. The other five and non-knowing do not arise because they look outward. Some wise people say that if the waves of affliction are slightly reduced, it is a near affliction, because there are none of these in the mind, so none of the twenty will arise. Distraction related to the pride of thinking "I am", carelessness related to desire and ignorance, agitation related to desire, and non-belief, laziness, and drowsiness belonging to ignorance will arise. The arising of the five such as carelessness is also explained in the Higher Abhidharma. In the Abhidharmakośa it is said: "Ignorance and carelessness, laziness, non-belief, and drowsiness and agitation, constantly arise in those with afflictions." Therefore. Then, in the Hidden Meaning it is said: "The mental factors of this (consciousness) are only nine." And in the Thirty Verses it is said: "It is always accompanied by the four defiled and indeterminate afflictions." If it is thought that this is contradictory, then these are the common five omnipresent ones, and the way of possessing the uncommon root afflictions is listed, so there is no contradiction, otherwise wisdom will not arise. In this way, it is contradictory that the view of self related to the part of wisdom arises. Shamelessness and lack of shame are entirely unwholesome, so they will not arise. Forgetfulness will also not arise, because the mind is focused on familiarity. Sleep will also not arise, because there is none in the upper realms, and there is not much difference between the retinues of this (consciousness) in the three realms. Regret will also not arise, because it is a form of displeasure. Investigation and analysis will also not arise, because they are forms of seeking and distinguishing. This is what is said in the Hidden Meaning. When entering consciousness, such as seeing form without wanting to see, is the proximate cause; such as seeing form because wanting to see comes first, is mind first. Among these two, in the retinue of the first, other than the five omnipresent ones, nothing else will arise, because there is no opportunity to arise.

Therefore. Secondly, in the virtuous retinue of the five sense consciousnesses, there are initially twenty-one, plus the two of investigation and analysis, making a total of twenty-three. In the afflicted retinue, there are initially ten, plus the three poisons, the latter of the tenth (referring to pride), and the two of investigation and analysis, making a total of twenty-five. Others do not arise because the other thirteen afflictions and the two of regret and sleep are of the mental ground. In the retinue of the obscured and non-specified, there are initially ten, plus the two of investigation and analysis, making twelve. In the virtuous retinue of the mental consciousness, in the desire realm, there are initially twenty-one, plus the four of other transformations. In the afflicted retinue, generally speaking, there are forty others besides the eleven virtuous dharmas. In the unobscured retinue, there are initially ten plus the latter four. The fifth of the generalities is: generally, substantial existence is defined as having the ability to perform functions, being stable, being established by reason, and being able to be independent. Here, it is not the first, because all mental factors have the ability to perform functions. Nor is it the second, because the view of the aggregation as a real self in the retinue of the afflicted mind is also stable, so it would be substantially existent. Nor is it the third, because all mental factors are also established by reason. Therefore, it is the fourth. Similarly, imputed existence is also divided into four types: like non-associated compositional factors, imputed on a state; like selflessness, imputed by mind, like superimposition; like a vase, imputed on something other than it; and imputed on the part of the basis of imputation that has not abandoned the part of the dharma. Here, it is the last, Master Lodro Ten said, for sentient beings, their own continuum being established separately, etc., and their own continuum not being established separately, is the meaning of imputed existence. Therefore, there are twenty-two substantially existent ones, namely the initial ten, the absence of ignorance from the virtuous dharmas, the other seven except for the latter three, and the five root afflictions except for view. The remaining twenty-nine are imputedly existent, which can be summarized as shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, lack of faith, and laziness being said to be substantially existent, which refers to their arising autonomously, as the great translator Panglo said. The sixth of the generalities is: some say that there is no extreme habituation in the desire realm, so there are fifty others.
