Because it should not be a binding factor. Also, it contradicts the teaching of "co-emergent feeling, recognition, and mind," because one should not be co-emergent and mixed. Secondly, in the commentary on the "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," "It is both singular and diverse, which is contradictory." This reasoning, as well as the scripture in the Sutra Pitaka, "Whatever is feeling, recognition, and mind, and whatever is consciousness, these dharmas are mixed, not unmixed," are prohibited. Secondly, the Sutra Pitaka monk Palden says, the three mental factors such as feeling are considered to be substances themselves, because it is said that "feeling, recognition, and mind are co-emergent." Such a statement is prohibited by the explanation of the Abhidharmakosha, which says, "All dharmas are rooted in desire, arise from attention, are caused by contact, and are possessed by mindfulness." Thirdly, Palden Drakpa considers mind and mental factors to be the same substance. If the mental factors of the conceptual retinue of mind-consciousness are non-conceptual, then it holds the self-character, and the conceptual holds the general character, so the objects will be different. If it is conceptual, then multiple conceptual entities will arise simultaneously in the same continuum, but in the Pramanavarttika it says, "Two concepts are not seen at the same time." and "Thus, distinguishing all dharmas, one truly knows that they arise in sequence." This contradicts what was said. The great translator Pang said, "That is blissful in the realm of wisdom." And in this treatise it also says, "The entry of the mind is..." and "The manifestation of joy of the mind is..." etc., until "the peaceful one of mind," it clearly shows as the same entity. Saying that they are different in the Compendium is to conform to the Vaibhashikas. In the Secret Meaning it says, "The place of Yogachara is made according to the common and uncommon freedom of the Shravakas etc." It's like that. Otherwise, non-associated formations should not be separate aggregates, and in the view of Mind-Only, since form is not a substance, it will not be shown as different aggregates. The glorious Sakya Pandita also said that mind and mental factors are not different substances, and Khedrup Yak and others also think the same.

According to the Sautrantika school and above, the mind and mental factors are not different entities, which is evident in the distinctions of philosophical tenets. The reasoning for this view has been extensively explained in the 'Seven Treatises,' so please refer to that work. In short, in the Vaibhashika school's view, non-associated formations, form, and consciousness are considered different entities, so mental factors must also be considered different entities from consciousness. However, in the Sautrantika school and above, blue and the impermanence of blue are considered the same entity, so the mind and mental factors are considered the same entity, which is the key point. The fourth common point is: In the retinue of the alaya consciousness, only the five omnipresent mental factors arise, and nothing else arises beyond that. This is because the five objects are each definite, the object is interrupted, so the objects are not the same. Also, they are the same as and correspond to the clear consciousness. The eleven virtuous qualities, afflictions, and near afflictions are not consistent with the nature of the alaya consciousness. The four transformations are because there is no basis for establishment. For example, investigation and analysis are attributed to the mind, but not all minds have investigation and analysis, but rather are attributed to the aspect of seeking and distinguishing, and the alaya consciousness does not possess these characteristics. In the retinue of the afflicted mind, the five omnipresent mental factors and the four afflictions arise. As the 'Secret Treatise' says, 'The mental factors of this (afflicted mind) are only nine.' That is the meaning. Nothing else arises beyond that because, of the three aspirations, the aspiration to encounter and the aspiration to pursue meaning are directed towards the distant, while the afflicted mind is directed towards the near. The unrelated aspiration arises from the fear of separation, but the afflicted mind does not have this fear. Faith is the attainment of certainty from previous doubt, but the afflicted mind does not have this doubt. Faith and mindfulness also focus on previous experiences, while the mind focuses on things that did not exist before. Samadhi is the concentration that arises from previous distraction, but the mind does not have distraction. Wisdom is present because it has views. The eleven virtuous qualities are not present because they are of a different nature from defilement. Anger and doubt are not present because anger is an unpleasant aspect, while the mind arises in the aspect of joy attached to the self. Doubt is suspicion of others, while the mind is of a single nature.
