The refutation is: Jamsar said, "In the Mind-Only school, saying that these two (mind and mental factors) have dissimilar aspects but also similar aspects is the view of the Vaibhashikas." This statement is unreasonable because both of the previous two treatises are similar in being Mind-Only treatises. Second, stating what is reasonable: For the eye consciousness that apprehends form, and its accompanying mental factors, because their aspect of apprehending form is the same, it is said that the aspects are the same. However, because the aspects of apprehending the essence and the particularities of form are dissimilar, it does not become without difference. Moreover, in the realm of consciousness, one knows through attachment what is pleasing, unpleasing, and the nature that is the opposite of both. One knows through feeling what is beneficial, harmful, and the nature that is the opposite of both. One knows through conception what is the characteristic of terms. And so on. In the commentary on the Treasury of Knowledge, it says, "Because each aspect is distinguished separately, they are those with aspects." Its explanation says, "Consciousness distinguishes the aspects of blue and so on and focuses on them, while feeling experiences it, and conception completely distinguishes it." In the commentary on the Praise of the Earth, it also says, "Because it focuses on the difference of the essence, if asked, 'Then, are their objects of focus not different?' Even if that is the case, it is because the object of focus is the same. They said so." This statement by Pang Lotsawa Chenpo, I see as being on the side of what is reasonable. Regarding this, if it is like mind and mental factors being the same entity, then mental factors do not merely apprehend the meaning, but must definitely apprehend its difference. Mind does not apprehend the difference of the meaning, because the parts in the mind that apprehend the difference of the meaning of things are mental factors, and not the mind itself. For example, just as conceptual thought, experience, self-awareness, and direct perception, although they do not cling to the object of conceptual thought, but in their entity, the part that clings to the object is conceptual thought, and not conceptual thought, experience, self-awareness, and direct perception. One must distinguish this difference. In general, the third part has three points: refuting and answering the view that there is only one consciousness; refuting and answering the view that there are three mental factors; the self of mind and mental factors being the same entity.

Concluding remarks. Firstly, regarding the views of those who assert that Bodhisattvas' consciousness is only one, etc. The sutra says, "For a long time, the mind flows in one direction, taming the mind that is difficult to tame." Therefore, the consciousness in the continuum of each sentient being is one entity. It relies on multiple faculties and focuses on the six objects, so it appears as multiple consciousnesses, just like putting a monkey in a room with many holes, or holding up a lamp. This is proven by scripture: "Sentient beings each have a continuum of consciousness." And in the Sutra on the Twelve Sources, it says, "The six consciousnesses are the source of mind." Furthermore, since the mind itself appears in various states such as happiness, mind and mental factors are one entity, just as the peacock's feathers appear in various colors, but the essence of the feathers is one. They say that. Regarding this, there are two ways of refutation: by Asanga and by Vasubandhu. The first is: In the Compendium, it says, "Any śrāmaṇa or Brahmin who considers only the mind in name to be an entity, and does not acknowledge the dharmas that arise from the mind, is unreasonable." etc., after speaking extensively, it concludes, "The five aggregates are unreasonable, because its states are flawed, because there is no difference in function, and because it contradicts the scriptures." That is, if mental factors are not entities, then feeling, perception, and volition, these mental factors are all included in consciousness, so the five aggregates are unreasonable. If one thinks that the difference in states is the five aggregates, then if there is a difference in interaction between these states, then because of the difference in nature, they become different entities; if there is no difference, then recognizing different states is meaningless. They are also not as different as the states of the six consciousnesses such as eye consciousness, because those consciousnesses have different bases and objects, while the states of feeling, etc., have the same object. It is also unreasonable for the mind to become multiple states in one instant, because there is no difference in the action that causes it to become like that. It also contradicts the scripture which says, "The mind that is defiled by desire, hatred, and ignorance cannot be liberated." If mind and mental factors cannot arise simultaneously, then the bound
