From the first day of the waning moon (the half-month after the 15th day of the lunar calendar), there are two ways of determining. The first is: In the Root Vinaya, it is said that the commitment of the early summer is made on the 16th day of the middle summer month, and its debate is conducted on the last day of the middle autumn month. In the Extensive Commentary, it is said that the middle months of autumn and spring are not possible, and the full months and small months of summer and winter are not possible. These statements are because the very term "sixteenth" on the first day of the waning moon is sufficient to prove that it is the preliminary of the waxing moon (the first to the 15th day of the lunar calendar). Moreover, the statement that the middle months of autumn and spring are not possible, if it is not the preliminary of the waxing moon, then on which full moon day will the fourteenth Upoṣadha occur, which is inconsistent with the constellations, which will be explained later. The second is that when asking about the age of a monk, there are Upoṣadhas. Twenty-four, namely the middle winter month, the full and small summer months, the middle summer month, the full and small autumn months, the waning moon Upoṣadhas are the fourteenth. The rest are the fifteenth, which is said because the beginning of the full and small months is considered to be from the first day of the waning moon. Otherwise, it would contradict the previous quote from the Extensive Commentary, so one of them must be abandoned. Moreover, the statement that the fourteenth Upoṣadha occurs in the Pleiades month (March in the Tibetan calendar), and here the statement that the fourteenth Upoṣadha occurs in the small autumn month, these two are considered to be the same meaning, so it can only be that the waning moon comes first. The first of these is called "full day" and the latter is called "half day." Furthermore, all the months that are named from the three divisions of the seasons and the names of the constellations are only said to have the waning moon as the preliminary, and it is not said that the waxing moon is the preliminary. The third is that there seem to be three views among Tibetan scholars. Nowadays, according to the Mongolian calendar, the eighth month is considered to be the end of the Chrum month, the end of the old year is completed, and then from the next day it is considered the beginning of the new year. There are also those who believe that it starts from the day after the end of the ninth Mongolian month, the Ta star month, and those who believe that it starts from the day after the end of the tenth Mongolian month, the Pleiades month. All of these agree that in the division of the four seasons, the beginning of the year is considered to be from winter. For all those who became Buddhas as princes, the beginning of the seasons is
