The two causes that are common and specifically pervasive. The latter is the cause of maturation. In the fifth, each of the six must be determined in terms of both the characteristic and the basis. First, the characteristic of the acting cause is: it does not hinder the arising of other conditioned dharmas, or it can be established as a cause by means of acting. The basis is that there are two kinds of acting causes: powerless and powerful. The first is: all unconditioned dharmas are the acting cause of conditioned dharmas, and for conditioned dharmas, those that do not arise are also the acting cause of other conditioned dharmas, and for those that have already arisen, the pot is the acting cause of the cloth, and so on. The powerful acting cause is the arising of eye consciousness based on the eye and form, and so on, all the other five causes. The characteristic of the second is: the effect that is simultaneous with oneself becomes the cause and effect of each other. The basis is like the elements of the same aggregate, the form aggregates are mutually related, like the mind and the mental events, the consciousness aggregates are mutually related, the three intermediate aggregates are mutually related, the basis is conditioned, and the characteristics are the four such as arising, like all five aggregates, and the non-associated formations become the cause and effect of each other, and three are said. The characteristic of the third is: the cause that produces the subsequent effect of oneself in the same kind as oneself. The basis is divided into defiled and undefiled. The first is the measure of the same kind of cause and effect. Both cause and effect are the same in any of the three: virtuous, afflicted, and non-obscuring. That is, they are the same in any of the five categories of abandonment of the same ground. That is, the seed produces the sprout, the drum and the drumstick produce the drum sound, the water produces the water sound, and so on. Both cause and effect are like the desire realm, and in the cultivation abandonment included in one ground, they become the cause of equal flow because they are of the same kind. The result of this will be said to be the result of the same kind in the section on the result below, so the key to the fact that sound has a cause arising from the same kind is also here. Those who do not understand this principle and make new commentaries say that sound has no continuity, so it is unreasonable to arise from the same kind, and it is said that they refute the root. If it is in terms of the undefiled, then the same ground is not necessary, because the undefiled ground

Because the truth of the path depends on each other, they become co-operative causes. Also, the first moment of the path of seeing is the co-operative cause of its subsequent continuum, and the three paths of meditation and no-more-learning. Similarly, two of the path of meditation, one of the path of no-more-learning, similarly, two of the dull-faculty path, one of the sharp-faculty path, six of the first moment, and one of the path of non-regression, etc., are equal and special, but not inferior co-operative causes. The definition of the fourth is: whatever is the effect simultaneous with itself, and becomes cause and effect with each other, is the concurrent cause. The example is: if only the same object, form, substance, and time are regarded as concurrent causes, then the minds and mental factors of each other will also become concurrent causes, so they are the minds and mental factors that depend on the same basis. The definition of the fifth is: whatever afflictions called "all-pervasive" produce the subsequent afflictions included in their own results, that is, they cut off other co-operative causes, and the afflictions included in their own results cut off the ripening cause, and the so-called "subsequent" cuts off the co-emergent cause and the concurrent cause. The example is: the meaning of "whatever" is the five views to be abandoned by seeing the truth of suffering, the wrong view to be abandoned by seeing the truth of origin, and the two extreme views, the two doubts of these two, and the two kinds of ignorance that are corresponding and unmixed, a total of eleven. These are also two causes at the same time as themselves, and for the subsequent ones, although there are cases of becoming ripening causes, here it refers to the part that produces the subsequent afflictions included in its own results. In this way, for this and the two co-operative causes, there are four possibilities, of which both are, is the part of the second category to be abandoned before, which produces its own subsequent category. Being a co-operative cause but not an all-pervasive cause is all the other co-operative causes other than that. The opposite is that the two to be abandoned before become the cause of afflictions of other categories included in their own results, and so on. What is neither is the co-emergent cause and the concurrent cause.
