This is said in terms of the word "having." Otherwise, there would be instances of having attainment even for jewels and the like that do not appear as sentient beings, and also for other sentient beings such as horses and cattle. For it is said in the sutra, "Monks, a wheel-turning king has seven precious things." The logical proof is also unreasonable, because the distinction between noble ones and ordinary beings should arise from the distinction of having abandoned or not abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing. If you think that this also arises from the distinction of having and not having, that is not correct. For that which has abandoned the seeds of affliction by the path of non-outflow, and that which has weakened the seeds by the worldly path, that is called abandoning afflictions. The opposite is not abandoning. Therefore, it should be said that whatever has not been abandoned, that is what is possessed; whatever has been abandoned, that is what is not possessed. If it is said that attainment is the cause of the arising of all phenomena, then the two unconditioned phenomena will not have attainment, because they do not have a cause of arising. And whatever phenomena have not been attained, and whatever are abandoned by moving from one place, and those that are abandoned by detachment from desire, those will not arise, so those will also not have attainment. Not only is there no proof, but there is also harm, like form, sound, and so on, and like attachment, hatred, and so on, this is not its own nature, and like the eyes and ears, the function is not obvious. Then, in the three cases of having power, having seeds, and having manifestation, the presence and absence of the first two are considered to be attainment and non-attainment, or having and not having. The sixth, the Vaibhashikas, say that both are substantial entities. Why? They say, "This is our tenet." In the case of "those who have not attained the path are ordinary beings," the meaning of "even the stainless" is that it shows that the non-attainment of the non-outflow also belongs to the three realms, just as the attainment of the non-outflow exists, they do not accept that the non-attainment of the non-outflow also exists. Why? Because they consider the non-attainment of the non-outflow itself to be an ordinary being, as it says in the treatise, an ordinary being.
