Everything becomes the master of its own actions. Secondly, in brief, there is no master who can control the twenty-two powers that are nearly essential for a person. Rather, the number twenty-two is determined by considering which dharma is more important in which situation. Specifically, the Vaibhashikas believe that because complete defilement and complete purification both depend on the support, the number is determined, as shown by "the support of the mind and its distinctions," etc. The Sautrantikas believe that because the entering and exiting of samsara both depend on the support, the number is determined, as shown by "or the support of entering," etc. In the case of "life is vipaka," it is divided into two: the real and the elimination of doubts. First, life is the vipaka fruit of good and non-good in the heavens and hells. Second, if it is said that an arhat can relinquish or retain life, then if it is a vipaka fruit, wouldn't it be contradictory for it to appear at will? In response to this, there are three views: the view that it is only vipaka, the view that it is mostly vipaka, and the view that incidentally mentions relinquishing or retaining life. The first view is that some treatises say that an arhat enters the most extreme samadhi, rises from samadhi, offers living supplies to the sangha or an individual, and prays, saying, "May the vipaka of my enjoyment be transformed into the vipaka of life," and also says this verbally, therefore life will be prolonged. Therefore, this itself is both the projecting and fulfilling of the karma of visible dharma, or like seeing the truth without a projector, one must directly acknowledge that the fulfilling vipaka is the vipaka of the karma of visible dharma. Some people believe that not all arhats can prolong life, but some who previously had a life span of one hundred years, but died prematurely due to circumstances, leaving a remaining life span, are guided here by previous practice, which is similar to the fruit of visible dharma being produced by the cause of vipaka, therefore it is only nominally acknowledged as vipaka. The second view is that the monk Yangsheng says that prolonging life is through the power of the most extreme samadhi, generating the elements of the fourth samadhi that are in accordance with life in the body itself, and then combining them with the elements of the senses that arise from karma.

As for prolonging life, abandoning it will generate factors that contradict life. Therefore, life is exhausted due to the pull of karma. Although it is not a Vipaka (karmic result) generated by the power of Samadhi, the saying "life is Vipaka" mostly refers to this situation. The monk Gocha Thaye (Infinite Armor) said: These four statements are flawed. First, if you think that life is the fruit of exhaustion, then this contradicts the general belief that life is the fruit of increase. Second, since the remaining life of the past appears here, it is impossible to determine whether one will experience present-life feelings, etc. Third, if the skandha of form exists, then it is impossible for a situation to arise that contradicts the desired life, so it will exist forever. Fourth, because the pull of karma is exhausted, one will die and be reborn. The third question has six aspects: On what basis? By whom? In what way? For what purpose is abandonment and abiding performed? What is the difference between life and lifespan? Explain in detail the purpose of the Buddhas of the past abandoning and abiding in life. First, the wise believe that it is the basis of the three continents (Jambudvipa, Videha, Uttarakuru) with male and female bodies. Second, it is an Arhat who has attained excellent Samadhi, liberated from both timely and untimely situations, without afflictions and with sharp faculties, and therefore able to freely use Samadhi. Third, the way of abiding is to enter Samadhi, offer resources, and vow that one's enjoyment becomes the fruit of life. The way of abandoning is to enter Samadhi, offer resources, and vow that one's life's Vipaka becomes enjoyment. Fourth, to prolong life for the benefit of others or to protect and maintain the Dharma, but if one lives without seeing these two benefits, or abandons life because of weariness with Samsara. As it is said: "Having practiced well in this Brahmacharya, and also having thoroughly cultivated the path, one rejoices in the exhaustion of life, like a person free from all diseases." Fifth, the Sutra says: "Blessing the formative aggregate of life, abandoning the formative aggregate of lifespan," what is the difference? The Vaibhashika says: There is no difference. Because the Prajnapti says: "What is life? It is the life of the three realms." The Sautrantika believes that the fruit of past karma is lifespan, and the fruit of present karma is life. The so-called "formative aggregate" is not like the heretics who believe that life is permanent and singular, or that there is no
