It is necessary to gather with a mind of aspiration, because it possesses the three characteristics of being complete with four or more. Third, regarding when to perform it, here it is necessary to understand the classification of seasons. The details are explained elsewhere, but what is needed here is that the day after the end of the Pleiades month (དབྱུག་གུའི་ཟླ་བ།), that is, starting from the first day of the waxing moon, the Rohini month (མགོའི་ཟླ་བ།) is the first month of all seasons. After that are the Krittika month (རྒྱལ་གྱི་ཟླ་བ།), Mrigashirsha month (མཆུའི་ཟླ་བ།), Ardra month (དབོའི་ཟླ་བ།), Punarvasu month (ནག་པའི་ཟླ་བ།), Pushya month (ས་གའི་ཟླ་བ།), Ashlesha month (སྣྲོན་གྱི་ཟླ་བ།), Magha month (གྲོ་ཞུན་གྱི་ཟླ་བ།), Purva Phalguni month (ཆུ་སྟོད་ཀྱི་ཟླ་བ།), Uttara Phalguni month (ཁྲུམས་སྨད་ཀྱི་ཟླ་བ།), Hasta month (ཐ་སྐར་གྱི་ཟླ་བ།), and Chitra month (སྨིན་དྲུག་གི་ཟླ་བ།). These twelve months are divided into six groups of two months each. After two and a half months have passed, the fourteenth Uposatha is held in the remaining six months, and the fifteenth Uposatha is held on the other eighteen dark days. For example, after the previous Rohini month (མགོའི་ཟླ་བ།) ends, the fourteenth Uposatha is held on the waxing moon when half of the Krittika month (རྒྱལ་གྱི་ཟླ་བ།) remains. Fourth, regarding which ritual to use for the Uposatha, it is divided into three parts: preliminary, main part, and concluding part. The first part is to first perform the three things of purifying the downfalls of oneself, others, and both, and then clean the monastery with lime and rags, and new paint, etc. Arrange the supports of body, speech, and mind, and whatever offerings are available. The disciplinarian arranges the seats, strikes the ghanta, and informs the Sangha with words of inquiry. The Sangha residing within the boundary should be assembled, and for those who are unable to come due to illness, etc., aspiration and purification should be received. At this time, the lamas first make a common prostration to the Teacher Shakyamuni Buddha, then make mixed prostrations to the Sangha, and then sit squatting facing each other. After three rounds of common confession, first one bhikshu asks the abbot about the view of offenses, and then the abbot asks everyone about the view of offenses. This is because in the Vinaya, before joining the Karma assembly, the purification of the downfalls of oneself and others has already been completed. Even if these are not mentioned, if they have not been completed, it seems necessary to rely on these. Then, the abbot says, "The Blessed One said that the Uposatha should be performed. On the fifteenth day of each half month." The ritual is performed in this way. It is divided into three parts: preliminary, main part, and concluding part. The preliminary includes purifying the downfalls of oneself and others, and striking the ghanta.

Gathering the Sangha, answering with questions, and ensuring that cushions and other items are not damaged are done in advance. In the root Sutra, it is said that on the evenings of the eighth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days, one should give the gift of listening to the Dharma. In order to eliminate the fault of not having taught or listened, I will recite a short Sutra, so please listen. The King of Discipline was born into a royal family, disciplines disciples, and is skilled at subduing faults. I prostrate to the Buddha who tames beings, and I will briefly speak of the praise of discipline. The lords of gods, nagas, asuras, kinnaras, and others, as well as Indra and others who act upon the supreme Dharma, the Buddha's words are the cause of great peace and happiness. To listen to these teachings of the holy Dharma, please come here. Whoever are the gods dwelling on the golden Mount Meru and the yakshas with mandalas, and whoever are the nagas dwelling beneath the earth, dispelling darkness with the light of the jewel on their necks, and whoever are the vidyadharas who delight in the glory of the snowy mountains and are exceedingly joyful, all of these, to listen to the words of the Buddha that have become the holy gate of liberation, please come here. Therefore, to this which has become a vast treasure of precious qualities, accomplishing other meaningful purposes, you should have faith and respect. Since there is no other Dharma to be listened to that is more excellent than this, tame the horse of power well, and listen to the words of the Buddha. The eye of beings that arises from the mouth of the Teacher is auspicious. Place the source in your mind, because this is the nectar in the ears of all sentient beings, and it is the medicine that cures all diseases of affliction, therefore you should contemplate this meaning correctly. In the hundred paths of the appearance of Buddhas in the world, the human body is obtained through the accumulation of merit. Alas! Faith and listening to the Dharma, such a thing is difficult to obtain even in hundreds of thousands of eons. The wise always need to be mindful and diligent in virtuous deeds. By these causes, it is proper to listen to the Buddha's teachings. With the ten powers, samadhi, etc., the best of men, discipline, etc., the rays of the sun, etc., the beings of the three realms, etc., by whatever binds, etc., the precious qualities, etc., having paid homage to the Teacher. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in Shravasti.
