Because in that way, the pervasion of the property of the subject will not be established. Our own system is: nine external sense faculties, five mere "thatness," and four elements, totaling eighteen. These eighteen are aggregates, which is also established for Buddhists. Therefore, with that as a sign, the nineteen are established as being "for the sake of the self." Then, the first three knowables are also effortlessly established as being "for the sake of the self," I think. Although the first of the twenty-four knowables is the general self, here, starting with the eye faculty as the subject, the key to holding the eye and so on is also this. The term "unnegated" indicates that for exclusion (rnam bcad), it is necessary to exclude that the valid means has negated the true probandum for others; while for complete exclusion (yongs gcod), it is necessary that none of the four valid means have negated it. Third, that part of the definition of the true probandum for others is definite in five meanings such as the entity. From the perspective of mainly eliminating dissimilar classes, the three, entity, intention, and unnegated, are definite. From the perspective of mainly eliminating wrong conceptions, the two, only and self, are definite. The first reason is that for its dissimilar class, either it is not taken as a property of the subject, or even if it is taken, it is related to faults. The first case is that the opponent does not want it to be the probandum because of hatred, which can be eliminated by intention. The second case has two possibilities: the opponent has already established it, so there is no need to establish it; or because it already includes negation by valid means, it cannot be established. The first case can be eliminated by the entity, and the second case can be eliminated by the unnegated. The second fundamental reason is that for wrong conceptions, with the reason related to the object to be shown, there may arise wrong conceptions such as "For example, is an unestablished sign the probandum?" or because the opponent has accepted the scriptures as valid means, there may arise wrong conceptions such as "Are all the meanings of the scriptures the probandum?" The first case can be eliminated by "only," and the second case can be eliminated by "self." Fourth, the entity of the probandum for others is something that the opponent has not established, so the entity is shown first. Then, for example, an unestablished sign is also something that the opponent has not established, so will it become the probandum in the present case? To eliminate this, "only" is stated after it. Then, if it is established that the eye and so on are "for the sake of the self," then

In short, if it is said that "eyes and other dharmas exist for the benefit of others," then, if the existence of eyes and others for the benefit of others is taken only as the thesis, will it become the present thesis? In order to eliminate this situation, "intention" is mentioned below it. Then, if the debater, in the manner of mental intention, takes all the meanings of the scriptures that have been promised as the thesis, will it become the present thesis? In order to eliminate this situation, "self" is mentioned below it. Therefore, in the Sutra Pitaka, the first mention of "self" is due to the combination, while in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, the first mention of "intention" is due to this order. Then, if one asserts that "sound is not an object of hearing," "a vase is permanent," "giving and other actions do not produce happiness," and "the moon with a rabbit cannot be expressed by the word 'moon'," will the thesis for the benefit of others become correct because the present thesis is promised? In order to eliminate this situation, "unnegated" is mentioned below it. Fifth, the nature is determined only by the opponent, because what has already been established by the previous debater is not a fault of the subject. The "only" is determined by both the debater and the opponent, because what the previous debater wanted to show, through the statement, the opponent may think that the unestablished example is the present thesis? In order to eliminate the arising of this wrong thought. "Unnegated" is determined by both, because if the previous debater's valid cognition has already negated it, there is no desire to establish it; if the opponent's valid cognition has already negated it, there is no desire to understand it. Sixth, some say that the difference between self and intention is to eliminate the overly pervasive and the non-pervasive. Some say that intention is to eliminate the place of wrong thought and its nature. Some say that it is to eliminate what has not been promised and what is not intended in the heart. Others negate all these views, and according to their own tenets, they believe that even if it is actually said verbally, what is not intended in the heart is not the thesis, and if it is to be the thesis, there must be a mental intention. When this is shown, if the debater has not promised the scriptures as valid cognition, then it is so, but if the scriptures are promised as valid cognition, then regardless of whether the heart intends it or not, all the meanings of the scriptures must be taken as the thesis. In order to eliminate this wrong thought, "self" is mentioned. In this regard, intention is the difference between eliminating the overly pervasive and the non-pervasive.
