Regarding the collection of things and things possessing qualities, whatever is not refuted by valid cognition (pramāṇa), that is the meaning of that treatise. Among these, "to be proven" indicates the meaning of the nature of the compendium. "Having become desirable" indicates the desire of the compendium and its own purpose. Non-exclusion is actually existent. And "only" need not be mentioned here, because it is not related to the thing to be taught, so the word "desire" can cut off the unestablished example as the object to be proven. In the compendium, because the unestablished example is cut off as the object to be proven, it is necessary to mention "only", because the desire of the compendium is related to the thing to be taught, so it will lead in the future, so it will become a desire, and this also exists in the unestablished example that may become the object to be proven in the future. If it is said that there is no need to mention the thing to be taught, because if it is not mentioned, then "only" also need not be mentioned, so it has the advantage of concise words, then to this, some say that this is to cater to the definition of the object to be proven of the Svātantrika school of non-Buddhists, because the logicians think that the thing to be proven, the thing to be taught is the definition of the object to be proven, so they think that this is in accordance with their own desired definition, so they will enter. Some say that because "very clear" is taught through the correct syllogism without actually stating the subject, then is that not also the thing to be taught? If asked, the thing to be taught is the meaning of how to teach through the five dharmas such as nature. The Svātantrika school is that the definition of teaching here is based on the object to be proven for the sake of others, so the former proponent says to the latter proponent the meaning of the thing to be taught. If it is said that the real object to be proven for the sake of others will become two different significations, because it has two different definitions stated in the two treatises. The answer to this is that some say that what is said from the compendium is the definition of the real object to be proven for the sake of others, and what is said from the logic is the definition of the real subject for the sake of others, so there is no fault, this statement is unreasonable, because what is said from the compendium is also the definition of the real subject for the sake of others, that is, "the collection of causes is the nature clear, not dependent and not pervasive, eliminating contradictions, is the definition of the subject".

It is explained as such. Because it is said so. Then, if there are two things with different meanings, the object to be interpreted will become two, but just because there are two things with different self-characteristics, the object to be interpreted will not become two. Because even if the self-characteristics are different, they exist in one meaning. Therefore, it should be understood that both definitions mentioned in the two treatises are definitions for both the consequence for others and the correct tenet, because these two have the same meaning. For example, non-deceptive knowledge and clear unknown meaning are both definitions of valid cognition and correct knowledge. So, what is the reason for the two different expressions in the two treatises? The Compendium elaborates on the aspects of the definition from the perspective of eliminating wrong discriminations, while the Reasoning Gate summarizes and explains it from the perspective of eliminating different categories. Second, some people think that the collection of characteristics of phenomena and subjects is the basis of what is to be established, which is not reasonable, because it is impossible to directly affirm or negate the characteristics. Some people think that the collection of sound and meaning is the basis of what is to be established, which is also not reasonable, because affirming or negating only sound and meaning will not lead to the realization of characteristics. Therefore, mistaking the collection of sound and meaning of phenomena and subjects as characteristics is the basis of what is to be established, because affirming or negating it will lead to the realization of characteristics. The third part has two points: a general explanation of the arrangement, and a detailed explanation of what has not been eliminated. The first part has seven points: recognizing the nature of the definition, the necessity of distinguishing and excluding the five phrases, the definite number of the five phrases, the definite order, analyzing whether it is based on the proponent or the opponent, the difference between intention and oneself, and the reason why what has not been eliminated is not directly shown here. First, the meaning of nature is the nature that the opponent has not established and therefore must be proven. The meaning of 'only' is that among what is to be established and what establishes, it is not arranged as what establishes, but only as what is to be established. The meaning of 'oneself' is that the proponent himself admits to what is to be established. The meaning of 'intention' is that even if it is not directly stated in words, it is the meaning of considering it as what is to be established in the heart.
