Explanation of Inference for Others Explanation of Inference for Others Secondly, regarding inference for others, the Sutra and its commentaries explain the three aspects of speech for others, the proposition for others, and the reason with the property of the subject, in that order. However, here in the Treatise on Reasoning, in order to be consistent with the explanation of the proposition under the reason, it will be explained in three parts: explanation of the proposition, explanation of the statement of proof, and explanation of the reason with the property of the subject. The first part has five points: definition, synonyms, meaning of the terms, classification, and individual meanings. The first point: In general, if the proposition is considered from the perspective of cause and effect, it is the effect; if from the perspective of sign and signified, it is the signified; if from the perspective of object and subject, it is the object; if from the perspective of mark and marked, the marked is established as the proposition, etc. Although there are many cases, here is the definition of the proposition of the mark: that which is to be inferred based on the mark. The second point: proposition, inferable, the scope of the mark's function, the marked, the subject, and the assertion are all synonyms. The third point: Because it is understood from the mark, it is the proposition; because it is inferred based on the mark, it is the inferable; because it is the scope of the mark's function, it is the scope of function; because it is what the proof is to be stated, it is the marked; because it is made the subject by the opponent, it is the subject; because the opponent has made an assertion, it is the assertion. The fourth point: the correct proposition and the pseudo-proposition. The fifth point, the individual meanings are divided into two points. The first point, the definition of the correct proposition is: the earlier scholars considered it to be the collection of dharma and the subject that is neither established nor refuted, and is made the object of inference. Not established means that it is not established for the opponent who can generate inference. Not refuted means that it is not refuted by valid cognition. Made the object of inference means that it is the object that the opponent who can generate inference wants to know. Or, it is the collection of dharma and the subject that can be inferred based on the correct mark. Classification: There are three types: divided into four possibilities, divided into three categories, and divided into two categories. The first is: both the dharma and the subject are established, both are negated, negating the dharma while establishing the subject, negating the subject while establishing the dharma, these four are respectively: the collection of sound and impermanence, the absence of a pot and the absence of a thing.

The present collection meaning, as well as the collection meaning of emptiness and non-entities, and the collection meaning of no-bottle and knowable (Dharmakirti) and so on. The second is that both dharma and dharmin are entities, both are non-entities, and the three where dharmin is an entity and dharma is a non-entity are, in order, the collection meaning of fire and heat, the collection meaning of general character and measurable (Dharmakirti), and the collection meaning of aggregates and no-self, and so on. In the case of seeming, it is also possible to distinguish between dharmin being a non-entity and dharma being an entity. The third has two types: self-benefit to be proven valid, and other-benefit to be proven valid. The definition of the first: the collection meaning of dharma and dharmin that can be inferred based on the valid sign in the case of self-benefit. For example, in the argument that where there is smoke there is fire, when smoke becomes a sudden valid sign, the collection meaning of fire and heat, and so on. The second has three types: the difference in definitions stated in the two treatises, analyzing what the basis is that is apparent and established, and the detailed explanation of the definition stated in the Compendium. The first is, as stated in the Treatise on Reasoning Treasure: "The Sutra states that it has five characteristics, the desire to be proven is the door of reasoning." As stated in the Sutra: "The essence is only its own nature, desire and non-negation, should be taught." Its meaning is that some people think that the completion of the five dharmas such as the meaning of essence is the definition of the valid proof for the benefit of others, which is unreasonable, because the meaning of what should be taught is not complete there. If what should be taught is not related to the basis, then the word "desire" can determine that, for example, the unestablished sign is the valid proof, so the word "only" has no need for distinction and complete determination. Therefore, what should be taught through the completion of the five dharmas such as the meaning of essence is the definition of the valid proof for the benefit of others directly shown in the Sutra. In the door of reasoning, it is said that what has become the desire to be proven is also a side that has not been negated by the meaning of contradiction, and its meaning is that some people say that the collection meaning of dharma and dharmin that the opponent who understands has promised to be proven is unreasonable, because the non-negation is directly said, and that is incomplete. Otherwise, the eyes and other things that work for themselves are dharmin, and should be the signified, because of that definition. Therefore, the intention of the opponent who understands is the desire to be proven.
