Then, those with scholarly knowledge believe that, in general, the whole is indivisible, yet related to many appearances and meanings; those with limbs, although an indivisible single entity, are related to many limbs and meanings. The Samkhya school believes that sound is created, yet it is eternal. Some believe that there is smoke in a place, but no fire. For these views, refuting wrong notions by stating contradictions is like this. Second, regarding the manner of answering, there are two aspects: refutation and establishment. First, some say that the answers to objections are necessarily limited to three: "the pervasion is not established," "the sign is not established," and "on top of the assertion," which is unreasonable. If so, then for both "contradictory pervasion" and "uncertainty," one answer of "pervasion not established" would be sufficient. Because that is the commitment. If admitted, then for both "pervasion not established" and "sign not established," one answer of "not established" would be sufficient. If it is said that although the two are the same in being not established, if one does not distinguish between "pervasion not established" and "sign not established," one cannot recognize them, and the debate would not be convenient. Then, that is the same for the former as well. Furthermore, if one gives the answer "pervasion not established" to "contradictory pervasion," it will become a mistake. For example, "sound, the subject, should be permanent, because it is produced." If one answers "pervasion not established," then one must implicitly admit that production can be permanent, just like positing "knowable" as the sign. Second, therefore, the wise answer objections with the four doors of liberation. That is, the answers to objections are four: contradiction, uncertainty, non-establishment, and the establishment of what is asserted. If one cannot refute with answers, then anger, holding grudges, praising oneself and defaming others, and obscuring reason with song, dance, and laughter are poor methods. Following the truth is the conduct of the holy, because through such establishment and refutation, one can uphold the Buddha's teachings. Third, regarding the explanation of the reason that possesses the property of the subject, there are three points: quoting the scripture, explaining the meaning of the scripture, and supplementing the meaning of the key points. First is quoting the scripture: In Sanskrit: Hetu cakra ha sarva. In Tibetan: Homage to Manjushri, the youth, who establishes the wheel of reason. Homage to the one who destroys the net of delusion, homage to the all-knowing one. With the wheel of the three aspects of reason.

The explanation of ascertainment should begin. Regarding what is to be inferred, through existence, non-existence, and both. For existence, it is correct; for non-existence and both, it is not established. Doubt has two types, and non-establishment has four. The combinations of non-establishment are also like that, in the similar side, there are existence, non-existence, and both; in the dissimilar side, it is also like that. The three situations each have three forms, in the upper and lower two situations, correctness exists. On the side, there are two contradictory situations, the four corners are actual uncertain situations, and the center is the uncommon common situation. Measurable things are made and impermanent, made and audible are produced by effort, impermanent and effort-produced are not tangible. These nine are for permanent etc. Permanent and impermanent, effort-produced, permanent and permanent, and permanent, non-effort-produced and impermanent permanent. For permanent, establish what is to be established. The upper and lower combine with the dissimilar side, it is the correct two aspects. The side combines with the dissimilar upper and lower, it is the contradictory two aspects. The four corners combine directly or crosswise, they are the four forms of the common uncertain. The two sides combine directly, it is the uncommon uncertain. The wheel of signs in nine forms, the forms of examples are like this: sky and vase, vase and sky, vase like lightning and sky. Sky and vase, sky and vase, sky and vase like lightning, lightning and sky like vase, vase like lightning and sky, sky like vase from dust. This is from the perspective of certainty. From the perspective of doubt, existence, non-existence, and existence and non-existence, combine with all aspects. The ascertainment of the wheel of signs, made by the master Dignāga, is complete. The second part has three points: first, paying homage and vowing to explain, second, the general distinction of reasons, and third, the separate explanation of things as dharma characteristics. The first point is: the author who destroys the net of delusion. etc., one verse. The second point is: regarding what is to be inferred. etc., five sentences. In general, merely establishing as a sign, in the basis of dispute, there are existence, non-existence, and both three situations. The first situation is things as dharma characteristics, the latter two situations are the two situations of doubt, and the situation of non-establishment. The third part has two points: from the perspective of certainty, from the perspective of doubt.
