From that, memory arises; from that, inference arises. The way in which memory arises from hearing the statement of proof is also in three stages: For those with the subject-property as a prerequisite, first, the memory of remembering the subject-property; then, the memory of remembering the general; then, the memory of remembering the pervasion on the subject of debate arises; and by that, the wisdom that grasps the property to be proven on the subject of debate arises, which is inference itself. For those with the pervasion as a prerequisite, first, the memory of remembering the general; then, the memory of remembering the subject-property; then, the way the latter arises is as before. Relying on the statement of proof, newly remembering the pervasive relation on the example does not arise, because it is necessary to have already remembered it and not forgotten it before the statement of proof. For the statement of proof that only has the subject-property and the statement of proof that only has the pervasion, the first of the previous three memories, which has already arisen before the statement of proof, the way the latter arises should be applied separately to the two statements of proof. Fourth, regarding the divisions, there are three: negation, affirmation, and abandonment. The first is: According to the views of previous scholars such as Chapa, in relation to the root to be proven, such as "sound is impermanent," it becomes eight statements of proof. For the opponent, the root divisions are: knowing both the subject-property and the pervasion; not knowing both; knowing the pervasion but not knowing the subject-property; and knowing the subject-property but not knowing the pervasion. For the case of not knowing both, there is the inference for others that establishes both. For the third case, there is the inference for others that establishes the subject-property and shows the pervasion. For the fourth case, there is the inference for others that establishes the pervasion and shows the subject-property. The first case is: Whatever arises occasionally is necessarily made. For example, a pot. Sound also arises occasionally, this is a correct statement of proof that establishes the subject-property. Whatever is devoid of the ability to function sequentially and simultaneously is necessarily devoid of being made. For example, space. Permanence is also devoid of the ability to function sequentially and simultaneously, this is the establishment of the reverse pervasion. Whatever disintegrates from its own cause without depending on another cause is necessarily disintegrating. For example, the last moment of a butter lamp. A pot also disintegrates from its own cause without depending on another cause, this is the establishment of the subsequent pervasion.

There are two correct arguments for establishing the probandum. For the third debater, "Whatever is produced is impermanent, like a pot," which only shows the subsequent pervasion; and "Whatever is permanent is unproduced, like space," which only shows the reverse pervasion, are correct arguments; and it shows the correct argument for establishing the subject-property, as previously stated. For the fourth debater, "Sound is produced," which only shows the subject-property, and establishes the correct argument for establishing the pervasion, as previously stated. If one knows both the subject-property and the pervasion, then for the four cases of remembering both, not remembering both, remembering the pervasion but not remembering the subject-property, and remembering the subject-property but not remembering the pervasion, the first case is not a place for establishing an argument, because the actual cause for the arising of inference is complete. In the second case, "Whatever is produced is impermanent, like a pot, and sound is produced," which is a similarity conjunction; and "Whatever is permanent is unproduced, like space, and sound is produced," which is a dissimilarity conjunction, these two are established. In the third case, the correct argument that only shows the subject-property, as previously stated, is established; and in the fourth case, the correct argument that only shows the pervasion, as previously stated, should be established, so it is said. This is unreasonable, because are these eight correct arguments established in relation to each probandum, or are they established in relation to one probandum? If it is like the first case, then the number of eight is definitely equal, because there are as many arguments as there are probanda. If it is like the second case, then "Whatever arises occasionally is produced, like a pot, and sound also arises occasionally," that correct argument becomes the correct argument for establishing that sound is impermanent by the reason of being produced, because the eight arguments previously stated are the correct argument for establishing that sound is impermanent. If you accept, then, that subject, any of the three modes of establishing that sound is impermanent by the reason of being produced is directly shown. Because you accept that. If you accept, then, the subject-property concerning that is directly shown. What do you accept? Because the pervasion concerning that is not directly shown. If you accept, then, it directly shows that sound is produced. Because you accept that. If you accept, then,
