The distinction of the valid subject. If that is harmed, then the distinction of the subject is harmed. The way of harming is: the coarse composite subject, should not be manifestly seen as a different substance from its own parts, because it is not manifestly seen as a different substance from its own parts. The contradiction of commitment is: the coarse composite not manifestly seen as a different substance from its own parts, because it is manifestly established, must be undeniably admitted. But it is contradictory to commit that the coarse composite is manifestly seen as a different substance from its own parts. Because it does not grasp the inferior distinction, it harms the distinction of the composite possessing three qualities, and this harms the distinction of it being manifestly visible. When the part is taken as the subject, then each individual atom is the nature of the subject, and being not manifestly visible is the distinction of the subject, if that is harmed, then the distinction of the subject is harmed. How it harms is that the parts of each individual atom are subjects, not being a different substance from the composite in the way of not being manifestly visible, if that is so, then you must be not manifestly visible, and if that is so, then the composite must be not manifestly visible. For example, just as not grasping the arrangement, one does not grasp the arranger. The contradiction of commitment is that the part is not manifestly visible, and the composite is committed to be manifestly visible, these two are contradictory. Others say, it is not reasonable, because the way of harming the distinction of the subject requires that the distinction of the subject at this time is something not established by valid cognition, why? Because the coarse composite being manifestly visible is established by valid cognition. Therefore, in one's own system, if the composite is taken as the subject at that time, then the coarse composite is the nature of the subject, and the partless is its distinction, if that is harmed, then the distinction of the subject is harmed. How it harms is: the coarse composite subject, should not be manifestly visible, because it is partless, thus directly showing the consequence, and implicitly implying that it is not partless from the consequence, because it is manifestly visible, thus showing the autonomous syllogism.

When a part is taken as the subject, the characteristic of the subject is that it cannot be seen by direct perception. The way to harm this is that it becomes non-perception itself, because it is impossible for a part to be seen by direct perception. If a part is seen by direct perception, then it cannot be seen, because it is universal. This is unacceptable, because the neck of a vase, etc., can be seen. Both of these are unreasonable, because the whole is not different from the parts, because it becomes non-perception itself. Because it has not entered into the meaning of the words that show the reason and the thesis. Showing the internal contradiction of the first system's commitment is unreasonable, because it does not distinguish between the necessity of commitment and the difference of what has been committed. If merely the necessity of commitment becomes what has been committed, then the Sautrāntika school would have to commit to the non-existence of external objects because of the reasoning of six aggregates combined into one, and therefore it would contradict the committed external objects. Also, because it does not grasp the characteristic of a low scale, and because it becomes non-perception itself, both of these reasons are harmful to the characteristic of the subject, because both of these harm the characteristic above the whole. The way to harm the whole being taken as the subject in the second system is unreasonable, because at that time, what does the whole have to harm that it is a different entity from its parts? Because harming the whole being indivisible is not relevant to the occasion. The way to harm the part being taken as the subject is also unreasonable, because that reason has not been committed by the other party, nor has it been established by valid cognition. Someone says, the reason is not established, because the Vaiśeṣika, if he admits that it is a part, then it is universally not seen by direct perception, and if he admits that it is a whole, then it is universally seen. This is unreasonable, because the Vaiśeṣika thinks that it has both what can be seen and what cannot be seen, as Dharmakīrti said: Some of them are also considered by the other party to be the characteristics of direct perception itself. Second, when a part is taken as the subject, the lump of three atoms gathered together is the one with the name of three parts, and at that time the whole is not the whole created by itself.
