In the explanation of "parts are not different from the whole," saying "the parts are not different from the whole" is to eliminate the distinction of the subject. Saying "the parts are different from the whole" is the proposition. Here, the parts are the subject, and the property of being different of these parts is to be established. Some of these parts are considered by the opponent to be a distinction of direct perception. If they exist in a different place, it is not reasonable because they do not appear to be different from it. If something exists in a different place and does not appear to be different from something else, it is not direct perception, like the parts of the first part that are not the subject. When the parts also exist in a different place, the other whole does not appear to be different from it. Although some believe that this is because it is said that "the pervader is not observed," it is slightly unreasonable because it does not harm the distinction of the subject. Therefore, the parts that can be seen by direct perception are the nature of the subject, and the substance different from the whole is the distinction of the subject, which will be explained in detail below. Here, it is also consistent to place the whole as the subject, because the previous third part is the common basis of the part and the whole. However, the difference is that when the part is placed as the subject, it is considered to be a substance different from the whole; when the whole is placed as the subject, it is considered to be a substance different from the part. Some Tibetan scholars believe that when the part is placed as the subject, it is not a substance different from its own part. But in that case, the whole is not the whole created by itself, but is the second part taken as the first whole, is that so? Gyalwang Rinpoche said, "The other whole from that," and in essence, it is considered that the whole and the part are different substances, which is the same as before. In the case of the third proposition, some believe that the whole, which possesses the three characteristics and is a substance different from its own parts, is the nature of the subject, and because it shows harm to it, it is established as harm to the nature of the subject, but this is unreasonable. Because possessing the three characteristics and being different from the parts have already been shown to be harmful by the previous two reasons in sequence, this is the occasion to show harm only to the nature of the substance. Our own system believes that here, only the substance is the subject.

Therefore, being the basis for other merits is its own nature. Because the Vaibhashikas consider its meaning to be the opposite. In short, if one understands how the first three reasonings sequentially show the harm to the three dharmas, objects other than limbs, and the opposite meaning of things, then all the key points will be naturally liberated. The meaning of the fourth commitment will be explained below. Second, showing the reasoning that harms it is divided into general explanation and separate explanation. First, the god Shāka said that it is harmed by five things: inference, commitment, self-statement, direct perception, and fame. The one with ornaments said that it is harmed by four things: inference, commitment, self-statement, and fame. Yama Ri said that it is harmed by four things: inference, commitment, direct perception, and self-statement. Among these three statements, the first is the view of the treatise. In the sentence "The scale becomes low," it shows the way of harming by inference. In the sentence "Like the increase and weight of form, etc.," it shows the way of harming by direct perception. The remaining commitment, self-statement, etc., because they have already been mentioned, the way of harming by commitment and self-statement is actually present, and it is necessary to extract the way of harming by fame from the word "etc." In the Sutra, when harming the difference of dharma, it actually shows the way of harming by inference, while others are implied. When harming the difference of the subject, it actually shows the way of harming by direct perception, while others are implied. When harming the self-nature of the subject, it actually shows the way of harming by commitment, while others are implied. When harming the self-nature and difference of both, it actually shows the way of harming by self-statement, while others are implied. This is the view of Dignāga, which I have newly discovered. The second part has four points: explaining the way of harming the difference of dharma, the difference of the subject, the self-nature of the subject itself, and the self-nature and difference of both. The first part has five points: the way of harming by inference, direct perception, commitment, self-statement, and fame. The first point is that the Sutra says, "Because it does not hold the difference of the low scale," it directly shows the self-cause. Here, "The scale becomes low" directly shows the refutation, and its meaning should be understood as follows: from two sets of ten clay balls of equal weight, one set will be mixed.
