Because it is seen that the gross possessor of limbs can do things like that, it is vowed that the possessor of limbs is a substance other than its own limbs by means of possessing the three dharmas that its own limbs do not have. The three dharmas are the extremely heavy qualities, the activity of its fruit going downwards, and the cause of the combination of these two. Therefore, wanting to establish the substance of the possessor of limbs with the three dharmas that one desires, one vows that the possessor of limbs is other than the limbs, the limbs are other than the possessor of limbs, and the substance exists, thus including three slightly different ways of vowing. Among them, in the case of the first vow, in general, the vow of the object of harm is indirectly indicated, while in this treatise, the vow of the object of harm is directly indicated, i.e., "having the characteristic of substance with related meaning," etc., two shlokas. Just saying, one vows that the possessor of limbs is other than the limbs. Then, is the gross possessor of limbs, which can be seen by direct perception, vowed there? Or is the first possessor of limbs, which cannot be seen by direct perception, vowed there? If one thinks the first, then it is the former, not the latter. Because vowing the latter, there is no need to accomplish the intention of the Vaisheshikas, because the Vaisheshikas have not seen the limbs and the possessor of limbs, which cannot be seen by direct perception, doing things like obstructing, and having seen that the gross possessor of limbs, which can be seen by direct perception, has such abilities, they vow that the possessor of limbs is another substance, which is what is indicated by "having the characteristic of substance with related meaning, seeing relies on other existence, not being without seeing having characteristics, there is no need to vow, not seeing has no result, wanting to establish the possessor of limbs after seeing." Then, is it vowed as other, distinguishing it on top of the possessor of limbs with the three dharmas that its own limbs do not have? Or is it vowed as merely other without doing so? If one thinks the former, then it is the former, not the latter. Because vowing the latter, there is no need to accomplish the intention of the Buddhists' knowing, because that has already been established for the Buddhists, which is what is indicated by "not having characteristics, there is no need to vow, other existence without characteristics, if establishing is just establishing what has already been established." Therefore,

Yé Drakpa considers that the gross object with parts, which can be seen by direct perception, is distinguished by three qualities such as the quality of being heavier, which its own parts do not possess, and thus establishes the thesis that "it is a different entity from the parts." This seems to be a thesis that harms the distinction of the dharma stated here. Therefore, the gross object with parts that can be seen by direct perception is the subject of the dharma, being a different entity from its own parts is the nature of the dharma, and the three qualities such as the quality of being heavier, which the parts do not possess, are the distinctions of the dharma of that thesis. Here, it mainly shows the harm to these three dharmas themselves. Gyalwang Lo said, "The thesis is that the object with parts is different from the parts, but the object with parts is not different from the parts, because it does not possess the distinction of being lighter in weight." This is a refutation. This also excludes other distinctions, but it is not merely other. If this is the case, the opponent will also say that for atoms, it is impossible to have results such as seeing and obstruction. In order to accomplish these, it is necessary to establish the object with parts that is other than the parts, possessing sound and function, possessing qualities, and the cause of aggregation is matter, possessing this characteristic of matter, wanting to establish the nature of being visible, but it is not merely other without distinction. Therefore, excluding it is also not, and if it is excluded, then it will only be excluding the self of the dharma, and not excluding its distinction. Here, it also wants to exclude the distinction of the dharma. Therefore, he said, "This is because the distinction is excluded." In the case of the second thesis, some scholars consider that the object with parts is different from the parts, which takes the object with parts as the subject of the dharma; the parts are different from the object with parts, which takes the parts as the subject of the dharma. In the latter case, the third part that can be seen by direct perception is the subject of the dharma, and being able to be seen by direct perception is the distinction of the subject of the dharma. However, since it shows harm to what can be seen by direct perception, it is not considered to harm the distinction of the subject of the dharma, but on top of the distinction of the subject of the dharma, it shows harm to being a different entity from the object with parts, and therefore it is considered to harm the distinction of the dharma. Gyalwang Lo said, "The parts are not different from the object with parts."
