Is this certainty done for the certainty of the three aspects, or is it done for other certainties? If it is the first case, then it is not appropriate to separate from the three aspects; if it is the second case, then it is meaningless as the definition of a correct sign. These are from the 'Treasure of Reasoning': "From one aspect to six aspects, wanting other aspects is wrong." This is the meaning of what was said. Some people think that these three aspects are the definition of a correct sign, and for the three aspects, the definition of the aspect of the subject is the reason for certainty that is consistent with the way of establishing it only on what is to be known; the definition of the aspect of concomitance is the reason for certainty that is consistent with the way of establishing it only on the similar side; the definition of the aspect of exclusion is the reason for certainty that is consistent with the way of not existing in the dissimilar side and the way of establishing it. The necessity of mentioning that it exists on the subject to be known, and that it exists only there, and that it is certain that it exists on both of them, respectively, is: Generally, for the reason with faults in the sense that it does not exist at all on the subject to be known, and that it exists but is not established on everything, and for the reason with faults of thought that it is uncertain to exist on those, it cuts off the establishment of the aspect of the subject. The necessity of mentioning that it exists on the similar side, and that it exists only there, and that it is certain that it exists on both of them, respectively, is: For the reason with faults in the sense that it does not exist on the similar side, and that it exists but also exists on the dissimilar side, and for the reason with faults of thought that it is uncertain to exist on those two, it cuts off the establishment of the aspect of concomitance. The necessity of mentioning that it does not exist on the dissimilar side, and that it does not exist only, and that it is certain, respectively, is: For the reason with faults in the sense that it becomes pervasive on the dissimilar side, and that it does not become pervasive but exists on the dissimilar side, and for the reason with faults of thought that it is uncertain not to exist there, it cuts off the establishment of the aspect of exclusion. Then, if there is no "only," what is the necessity of mentioning it later without mentioning it earlier? If it is said that "it does not exist only on the dissimilar side," then for what exists only on the dissimilar side, the aspect of exclusion is not established, then for what exists on both the similar side and the dissimilar side, is the aspect of exclusion established? It is in order to eliminate such doubts. These are the tenets of the three aspects being of the same essence. For this, the three aspects are not the definition of a correct sign, because the aspect of the subject is pervasive of all things, which is the reason.

It is said, that is also acceptable. Because there is the saying, "The reason that pervades the পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) of the established is the reason." In the Hetubindu it says, "The sign with three aspects is that which exists in what is to be inferred, exists in the similar side, and is definitely absent in the dissimilar side." Because the phrase "the sign with three aspects is" is the definition of a correct sign, and the remaining parts identify the nature of each of the three aspects. And, "the reason is also for the three aspects," because the reason is said to be the basis of possessing the three aspects, but not the three aspects themselves. In the Pramāṇasūtra it says, "From the sign with three aspects, meaning is seen." And so on, because the reason with three aspects is said to be the definition of a correct reason, but there is no reliable scripture that says that these three aspects are the definition of a correct sign. Some who believe that the nature of the three aspects is different. Having the three aspects complete is not the definition of a correct sign, because if the sign is correct, then the three aspects must be determined by the power of valid cognition. If the three aspects are complete, then it is not necessarily the case that the three aspects are determined by the power of valid cognition. Therefore, they say that the reason with three aspects determined by the power of valid cognition is the definition of a correct reason. This is not reasonable, merely seeing in the similar side and not seeing in the dissimilar side is sufficient to establish the two aspects of following and reversing. If the two aspects of following and reversing are established, then it is not necessarily the case that these two are determined by the power of valid cognition. The second part includes the actual meaning of the definition and the nature of each of the three aspects. The first part is that whether the reason with three aspects complete, or the reason with three aspects, or the reason that pervades the পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) of the established, or the reason that establishes পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) and determines the relationship, are taken as the definition, there is no difference. In the Pramāṇasūtra it says, "From the sign with three aspects," and in the Hetubindu it says, "The reason with three aspects is," and here it says, "The reason that pervades the পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) of the established," and in the Rigs Gter it says, "The reason that establishes পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) and determines the relationship is a flawless definition," and in the auto-commentary it says, "Therefore, pervading the পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) of the established, and the establishment of পক্ষধর্ম (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, literal Chinese meaning: पक्षधर्म, pakṣadharma, pakṣadharma, property of पक्ष) and the relationship, and the determination of the three aspects, these are all the same meaning," because it is said so.
