From the perspective of classification, there are three types: refutation, establishment, and abandonment. The first is: The proponents of Dharmottara and his followers believe that the teacher sometimes distinguishes from the perspective of the dharma, sometimes from the perspective of the subject of dharma, and sometimes from the perspective of its difference, therefore it can distinguish differences. Considering this meaning, there are two contradictory reasons for negating the nature of dharma and the subject of dharma, and two contradictory reasons for negating the difference, totaling four, which are respectively: sound, the subject of dharma, is permanent, because it is produced; and, the Vaiśeṣika believes that space, the subject of dharma, is permanent, because it is non-composite; and, eyes, etc., the subject of dharma, are not the object of combination, and can benefit others, because they are combined and accumulated; and, eyes, etc., not the object of combination, the subject of dharma, can benefit others, because they are combined and accumulated. They think so. These are unreasonable, because if the nature of the subject of dharma is negated, then pervasion is not established, and if pervasion is not established, then it is not reasonable as a contradictory reason. The other three examples are also unreasonable, because these are only distinguished from the perspective of expressing intention, not from the way of negating dharma and the subject of dharma. The second is: If contradictory reasons are distinguished from the perspective of expressing intention, there are four types, namely: some are contradictory reasons that are directly expressed as contradictory, some are contradictory reasons that become contradictory through the meaning of expression, some are contradictory reasons that express dharma, and some are contradictory reasons that express the subject of dharma, totaling four types. The first is: impermanent sound, the subject of dharma, is permanent, because it is produced; the second is: permanent dharma, the subject of dharma, is capable of producing results, because it is devoid of the ability to function sequentially and simultaneously; the third and fourth are: the latter two mentioned earlier. The third is: if it is the same for what is correct, then because the action is small, it is abandoned. This has been said before in the ten cases of correct classification. Third, refuting the view that other classifications exist: The Sāṃkhyas believe that eyes, etc., the subject of dharma, can benefit others, because they are combined and accumulated, like bedding and cushions, etc. Why is this not considered the third contradictory reason? No, because there is no difference between verbal expression and mental intention as the thesis, so it is included in the previous two contradictions of dharma and the subject of dharma.

It is for this reason. Third, considering the certainty of those reasons, there are two points: the certainty of excluding other extremes, and the certainty of the ability of those reasons. First, the amount established as a sign is determined to be four: the sign is not established in the dharma of the subject, and the establishment of two. The first is: the seemingly valid sign that is not established. The second, for what is to be proven, is determined to be proven; determined to be prevented; and uncertain for both, there are three. The first is correct, the second is contradictory, and the third is the uncertain reason, it is for this reason. Second, these four established as signs also have four abilities: the unestablished cannot generate doubt on the subject; the uncertain generates doubt; the contradictory generates the certainty of the unwanted; the correct generates the certainty of the desired, because the jewel on the crown of the wise says: "It has no power to generate doubt in the side, it can establish the certainty of the unwanted and the desired." It is for this reason. Second, although what is to be realized by it has been explained here in the Treasury of Reasoning, in order to balance the chapters of the treatise, it will be explained for the sake of others. From the reasons based on the two relationships, there is realization of the hidden and measurable subject, because it is inference, so the seemingly valid reasons should be known as the limbs of cutting off the wrong path. This is called the concluding verse. The self-benefit inference has been explained. The valid inference has been explained.
