Ra. The meaning of those is: Taking as a basis one reason that establishes what is to be proven, when all three aspects are established on top of that, it becomes a correct reason. If any one of them is not established, it becomes a seemingly valid reason. Therefore, a correct reason is the basis that possesses the three aspects, but it is not the three aspects that are possessed. That is the meaning. Secondly, there are two: definition and example. First, the definition of the aspect of the subject: The aspect of the reason that must be mainly established in a definite way, with the very existence in accordance with the way of establishing on the subject to be known, of the reason of definite knowledge drawn by the valid cognition that apprehends the subject to be known as the reason. The definition of the aspect of concomitance: The aspect of the reason that must be mainly established in a definite way, with the very existence in accordance with the way of establishing the reason to be established only in the similar side, by the definite knowledge drawn by the valid cognition that sees the relationship between the reason and the subject. The definition of the aspect of counter-concomitance: The aspect of the reason that must be mainly established in a definite way, with the very non-existence in accordance with the way of establishing the reason to be established on the dissimilar side, by the definite knowledge drawn by the valid cognition that sees the relationship between the reason and the subject. Therein, aspect of the subject, the aspect of the aspect of the subject, and the first aspect of the reason are all different names. For a correct reason, concomitance, the aspect of concomitance, and pervasion of concomitance are all different names. Counter-concomitance, the aspect of counter-concomitance, and pervasion of counter-concomitance are all different names. In general, it is not definite, because for a correct reductio ad absurdum, pervasion of concomitance and pervasion of counter-concomitance are established, but the aspect of concomitance and the aspect of counter-concomitance are not established. The second and third aspects of the reason, in relation to the statement of proof of similar and dissimilar phenomena, is it necessary to establish separately the two ways of combining concomitance and counter-concomitance? I think it is necessary. Secondly, the three, distinguished by the exclusion that "produced" is not associated with "sound", and that "permanent" is impossible for "produced", but only pervaded by "impermanent", and that "produced" is impossible for "permanent", but only pervaded by "unproduced", are respectively examples of the aspect of the subject, the aspect of concomitance, and the aspect of counter-concomitance, by proving that sound is impermanent with the reason of "produced". Similarly, the three, that sound is produced, and that if it is produced, it is pervaded by impermanence, and that if it is permanent, it is pervaded by unproduced

Taking the three aspects as the basis, and being a part of what is made. On top of that, the aspect of being established in accordance with the way sound is applied, the aspect of being in accordance with the way it is applied only to the concordant side, and the aspect of not being in accordance with the way it is applied to the discordant side, these three are taken as the basis, and the meaning is the same. Some think that taking what is made as the basis for establishing sound as impermanent is contrary to the scriptures. As it is said in the *Tarkatīkā*: "Following and reversing are mutually exclusive contradictions." And in the *Pramāṇaviniścaya*: "Then would it become the second aspect of the sign? No, because following and reversing are mutually different. Because they can be expressed by a single statement. It is said to be a condensed expression, but it is not a condensed aspect." And in the *Tattvasaṃgraha*: "What is taken as the basis for inference is what is to be known. What is established in it is the property of the subject." In its auto-commentary, it says: "What is to be known is established from perception or inference. The first aspect is called the property of the subject." And: "By the force of the connection between the sign and what is to be proven, the certainty of existence and non-existence is following and reversing." In its commentary, it says: "After the connection between the sign and what is to be proven is determined by valid cognition, the fact that what is to be proven follows the sign is following, and the fact that the sign disappears when what is to be proven disappears is the aspect of reversing. Since these cannot be determined on the object of knowledge, they must be determined on the example." And: "The characteristic of the sign is the elimination of others." In its auto-commentary, it also says: "For this, what is established in a decisive way without possessing a subject of dispute is the property of the subject. The fact that what is to be proven follows the sign is following. The fact that the sign disappears by the force of the disappearance of the property of what is to be proven is reversing." Because it is said so. Third, refuting the dispute, as it is said in the *Tattvasaṃgraha*: "The second aspect and following do not have the two faults of throwing away reversing." The meaning of what is said has already been explained in the previous section on refuting other views. Some think that the valid reason for establishing the property of the subject and determining the connection should not be the definition of a valid reason, because if the connection is established, then the connection must be determined by the force of valid cognition, so saying that it is certain is unnecessary. There is no fault, because here the meaning of establishing following and reversing is placed on explaining certainty.
