There are two parts to refuting through analysis. First, when establishing a dharma based on a substance, if all knowable things can be clearly divided into two categories, then when establishing the existence of fire with substance based on the sign of substance, is that substance a similar instance or a dissimilar instance? If it is the former, then steam is the subject, it should have fire because it is a substance. If it is the latter, then smoke is the subject, it should not have fire because it is a substance. If it is neither of these two, then it contradicts the clear division of all knowable things into two categories. Also, when establishing that the sound of a conch shell is produced by effort from the sign of being produced, is that produced thing a similar instance or a dissimilar instance? If it is the former, then lightning and forest fire are the subjects, they should be produced by effort because they are produced. If it is the latter, then a clay pot is the subject, it should not be produced by effort because it is produced. If it is neither of these two, then it contradicts the clear division of all knowable things into two categories. Also, when establishing that being produced is the name of a valid sign from the sign of possessing the three modes, is the mere exclusion of knowable things a similar instance or a dissimilar instance? If it is the former, then knowable things become a valid sign for establishing that sound is impermanent. If it is the latter, then does the mere exclusion of knowable things pervade or not pervade the possession of the three modes of a reason? If it pervades, then it becomes a contradictory sign of that category. If it does not pervade, then possessing the three modes becomes non-knowable. If it is neither of these two, then it contradicts the clear division of all knowable things into two categories. Second, there are four points: it is unreasonable upon examination, it is too extreme, the system collapses upon analysis, and it is not the intention of the teacher. The first is: does a valid sign act on the object of refutation and establishment, or does it act in the mind? If it is the former, then it is unreasonable, therefore: 'Therefore, things without substance depend on a basis, external objects do not depend on a basis, for sound and meaning, depending on this, establishment and refutation, all are asserted.' Because it is said so. If it is the latter, then all knowable things become unable to be clearly divided into two categories of one pervasion. Since refutation and establishment are done in the mind, and since it is the occasion for establishing that sound is impermanent, in the mind of the opponent, it is neither a similar instance nor a dissimilar instance of that category. The second has three points: the characteristics of the subject-property

It is difficult to express oneself, and the nature of subsequent pervasion and contradiction is difficult to express, and the uncertain reason should be established as unreasonable. First, as a knowable thing, it should be established that it does not belong to either the similar or dissimilar category. Because all knowable things are determined to be two aspects of a combination. If admitted, because there is no category, it cannot be established as the nature of pervasion. In the case of a valid reason, as the nature of the first aspect, the knowable thing is consistent with the similar category and is determined, and in the case of a contradictory reason, the knowable thing is consistent with the dissimilar category and is determined, it should be possible to establish it as the nature. Because there is no nature of pervasion, the nature of the first aspect must be established. Second, the reason that exists only in the similar category should not be established as pervasion, it should be established. Because in the case of a valid reason, as a knowable thing, it is a similar category, so the existence in it should also become the fault of pervasion. The reason that does not exist in the dissimilar category should not be established as contradiction. In the case of a contradictory reason, as a knowable thing, it is a dissimilar category, so the existence in it should also become the fault of contradiction. Third, when establishing that sound is impermanent, if hearing is established as the reason, then it should not become the uncommon uncertain reason of that kind, it should be established. Because it is common to the knowable thing and the similar category of that kind. When establishing that sound is impermanent, if measurement is established as the reason, then it should not become the common uncertain reason of that kind that belongs to both sides and belongs to both sides, it should be established. Because it is only one of the two sides of that kind. If the third point is analyzed, then the establishment will collapse, and the basis of the three aspects can only be determined as two, it should be established. Because all knowable things are determined to be two aspects of a combination. The opponent says: Admit, because the basis of the reason can only be determined as two aspects. Then, the aspect of the reason can only be determined as two, it should be established. Because it has been promised. Fourth, it is not the view of the teacher, it is unreasonable to determine that all knowable things are two aspects of a combination. Because the teacher said: "Pervasion similar category exists and does not exist", thus explaining the nine reasons with pervasion, and it is also possible that there is no contradiction in both.
