Although Gelong and his sons divided valid direct perception into four types, such as sense direct perception, they did not differentiate apparent direct perception into sense direct perception, etc. Instead, they distinguished between conceptual direct perception as apparent and non-conceptual direct perception as apparent. Similarly, for valid reasons, they divided them into three types: effect, self, and non-observation. For apparent reasons, they divided them into three types: contradictory, uncertain, and unestablished. This is the intention of the treatise. The third part is divided into three categories. The first category is the unestablished reason, which is divided into two: definition and classification. First, some say: "Whatever is presented as a reason, if its property of the subject is unestablished, for example: a rabbit's horn, as the subject, sound is impermanent, because its property of the subject is unestablished." Because this is about the unestablished reason. Some say that it is not the property of the subject, which is unreasonable, because it is not the definition, because it is the object to be explained. The self-view is that the reason for the unestablished property of the subject is the definition of the apparent unestablished reason. The second part is divided into three types: unestablished in meaning, unestablished in consciousness, and unestablished in relation to the debater. The first type is divided into three types: the nature of the subject is unestablished, the nature of the reason is unestablished, and each aspect of them is unestablished. The first type is further divided into two types: First, the nature of the subject is unestablished from the beginning because it does not exist, for example: I, as the subject, am all-pervasive, because I am the enjoyer of all things. The second type exists, but is unestablished as the basis of the dispute, for example: sound, as the subject, is domestic livestock, because it is made. The second type is divided into two types: the nature of the reason is unestablished from the beginning because it does not exist, and it exists but is unestablished because it is not related to the intention of knowledge. The first type is: this person, as the subject, has a self, because he has the qualities of a self. The second type is divided into two types: The first type is unestablished because it is not the nature, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is the object of eye consciousness. The second type is unestablished because the reverse is not different, and is divided into two types: the basis and the reason are not different, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is sound. The dharma and the reason are not different, for example: sound, as the subject, is impermanent, because it is impermanent. The basis and the dharma are not different, and are included in the previous unestablished basis of the dispute.

Considering these, there is no separate distinction. Third, there are two cases where each aspect of these is not established: one is where one aspect of the subject-property (རྟགས་ཆོས་ཅན།) is not established, and the other is where one aspect of the reason (རྟགས་) is not established in the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།). In the first case, there are two ways of establishing it: taking a general category as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།) and taking a general collection as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།). The first case is like this: a tree, as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), is sentient, because it sleeps. If the meaning of sleeping is taken to mean that the leaves curl up, then it is not established in one aspect of the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།); if sleeping is taken to mean falling asleep, then the nature of the reason (རྟགས་) is not established; or depending on the tenet, it is not established for the external opponent. Again, sound, as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), is impermanent, because it is produced by effort. If the production by effort is taken as a distinction of sound, it is established for the sound produced from the tongue and palate, but it is not established for the sound of water and the sound of wind, etc., so the reason (རྟགས་) is not established in one aspect of the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།). The second case is: the three modes (ཚུལ་གསུམ།) as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), are a valid reason (གཏན་ཚིགས། ཡང་དག), because this can symbolize a valid reason (གཏན་ཚིགས། ཡང་དག), like the case where each of the three modes (ཚུལ་གསུམ།) is not established. In the second case, there are also two ways: taking a general category as the reason (རྟགས་) and taking a general collection as the reason (རྟགས་). In the first case, establishment and non-establishment are the same, for example, if sounds in general are taken as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), and then permanence is established as the reason (རྟགས་), then it is like non-establishment. If permanence is taken as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), and then being made is established as the reason (རྟགས་), then it is also non-establishment. Establishment is the same, for example, if sound is taken as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), and then being made is established as the reason (རྟགས་), then the being made of sound is established. The being made of what is not sound is not established, but merely being made is established, so there is no fault, just as the production by effort of one aspect of sound is established, and one aspect is not established, but merely the production by effort is established, so there is no fault, just like saying the same. The second case is like this: the sense consciousness of the appearance of two moons as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), is direct perception, because it is a cognition that is free from conceptualization and not mistaken. In the second case, there are three cases where it is not established in the mind: doubting the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), doubting the reason (རྟགས་), and not being established due to doubting the relationship between the two. In the first case, there are two ways: doubting without the possibility of certainty, such as taking a meat-eating vase as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།); doubting even with the possibility of certainty, such as not being certain whether it is a jewel or a lamp, taking a jewel as the subject-property (ཆོས་ཅན།), just like that, it is the same whether you establish the reason (རྟགས་) or the subject-property (ཆོས་). In the second case, there is also the possibility of certainty.
