Some say that the words "absence" and "negation" express the same meaning. The reason for thinking this is that there are debaters who are ignorant of both meaning and words. This view is unreasonable because name and referent should not contradict each other, as these two do not contradict. Scripture also does not hinder this claim, because the meaning in scripture is that with the sign of "no fire," one can prove on the ocean of the name-referent of no fire that there is no smoke, and that smoke is not established by valid cognition. This is not to show that these two arguments have a common basis. Regarding the third point, some say that meaning is the self-character and words are the expresser, which is unreasonable because if the argument establishing meaning is correct, then the dharma to be proven does not necessarily have to be the self-character. Some say that meaning is the object and words are the subject possessing the object, which is also unreasonable because if the argument establishing words is correct, then the dharma to be proven does not necessarily have to be the subject possessing the object. One's own view is that the referent that is proven by positing the opposite of meaning as a sign is words, and all the dharmas to be proven that are not proven by positing the opposite of meaning as a sign are meanings. Fifth, from the perspective of the dharma to be proven, there are two types: correct negation signs and correct establishment signs. The first is the previously mentioned non-apprehension argument. The latter is the previously mentioned effect and nature arguments. Sixth, from the perspective of relationship, there are two types of arguments: those that rely on the relationship of one entity and those that rely on the relationship of arising from that. The first is further divided into two types: those that rely on the direct relationship of one entity and those that rely on the indirect relationship of one entity. The first is the nature argument, and the second is the pervasive non-apprehension argument. The second is further divided into two types: those that rely on the direct relationship of arising from that and those that rely on the indirect relationship of arising from that. The first is the effect sign, and the second is the non-apprehension of the cause argument. So, what relationship do the contradictory visible arguments rely on? Ultimately, they rely on the relationship of one entity, because ultimately they are the same in that they definitively prove the absence of the object to be negated through the means of the object to be negated not being apprehended by valid cognition. Seventh, from the perspective of what is posited as a sign, there are those that become absence-negation signs and those that become non-absence-negation signs.

There are two types. The first is the reasons that do not observe the contradictory. The latter are the reasons that observe the contradictory and the reasons of the self-nature of the result. Eighth, from the perspective of the way of establishing, there are two types: establishing the way of being and establishing the existence. The first has two types: establishing the way of proving and establishing the existence. The first is: sound, subject, is impermanent, because it is made. The latter is: the blue smoke in the sky, subject, its cause is fire in front, because it is smoke, and so on. The second has two types: establishing the way of proving and establishing the existence. The first is: sound, subject, is impermanent, because it exists. The latter is: where there is smoke, subject, there is fire, because there is smoke, and so on. Ninth, from the perspective of the debater, there are two types: the correct reason in the case of self-interest and the correct reason in the case of others' interest. The definition of the first is: the reason that has the three aspects that the previous debater did not establish in front of the later debater. For example, from the reason that smoke is suddenly produced, when the direct perception of knowing that there is fire arises immediately, smoke is the example. The definition of the latter is: the reason that has the three aspects that the previous debater established in front of the later debater. For example, when the previous debater, the pure one, establishes in front of the later debater, the pure one, sound, subject, is impermanent, because it is made, the made is the example. Some say that the correct reason in the case of self-interest cannot become the correct reason, because its homogeneity is not established by either the previous debater or the later debater. Pervasive, because the dharma of the homogeneity must be determined by both the debater and the later debater, so it is said that it is unreasonable, because that scripture is spoken in terms of the dharma of the homogeneity of the correct reason in the case of others' interest. If it is said that, therefore, this treatise related to only this, and so on, is said only for the reason in the case of others' interest. The combination of non-establishment is not what is said, and so on, this treatise is said only for the reason in the case of others' interest. Not pervasive, because the dharma of the homogeneity is pervasive, and so on, this treatise is said only for the reason in the case of others' interest. The essence is the nature of words and particles, wanting, and so on, this treatise is the establishment of others' interest.
