Furthermore, it is unreasonable to consider the direct perception of seeing smoke as the mind that apprehends the sign. Because Dignāga explained the distinction between the mind that apprehends the sign as appearance-like perception. It is also unreasonable to think that Dharmakīrti's view is that the decisive knowledge that ascertains pervasion is the mind that apprehends the sign. In the commentary, the mind of the effect, smoke, the nature of being produced, and the object of being made are said to be the mind that apprehends the sign, but it is not said that the decisive knowledge that ascertains pervasion is the mind that apprehends the sign. Otherwise, it would be possible for the mind that apprehends the sign to become the real cause of the inferential cognition of the subject of the sign. Because it is possible for the decisive knowledge that ascertains pervasion to become that. The latter system, which considers the mind that apprehends the sign as two, is also refuted by the same reason. Moreover, the way of arising is also unreasonable. First, the mind that apprehends the sign arises, and then the ascertainment of the three modes arises on that sign. If the mind that apprehends the sign does not arise, and the ascertainment of the three modes arises, then it would be a fallacy of apprehending the attribute without grasping the basis. Furthermore, this system believes that the mind that apprehends the sign apprehends the sign on each of the respective objects of dependence, and the subsequent memory does not depend on each of the respective objects of dependence, but combines the three modes into the object of the mind and remembers them. This is also unreasonable. As before, the fault of the mind that apprehends the sign not arising from the sign remains. And the meaning of remembering after combining the three modes is that when remembering on the object of debate, the inferential cognition has already arisen at that time. The third part has four points: definition, example, way of arising, and scriptural citation and combination. The first is: the decisive knowledge that grasps the object to be established as a sign before ascertaining the three modes, and which becomes the cause of the lineage of the inferential cognition of its own effect, the subject of the sign. The second is: for the effect sign, the decisive knowledge of ascertaining smoke that arises after the direct perception of seeing smoke. For the nature sign, if the certainty of ascertaining sound as being produced by the direct perception of grasping sound can be drawn by its own power, then it is like the decisive knowledge of ascertaining being produced that arises after that direct perception. If it cannot be drawn by its own power, then it is like the decisive knowledge of grasping being produced that is drawn by the inferential cognition of understanding sound as being produced, and that being produced sign becomes the mind that apprehends the sign that proves that sound is impermanent by the being produced sign. Finished.

Regarding the negative sign, it is like the latter of the two conceptualizations drawn from the clear perception of pure awareness, thinking, "This place is visible, this vase is invisible." Thirdly, from the decisive knowledge that ascertains smoke, it draws the pervasion that ascertains the presence of the property of the subject in the smoke itself, and the conceptualization that ascertains the necessary connection between fire and smoke. When the three modes are ascertained without interruption in this way, the inferential cognition that realizes that there is fire in that place arises without relying on the statement of proof. This is the case when the sign is taken as self-serving. For this, the memory that intervenes is none other than the wisdom that ascertains the three modes. Furthermore, after ascertaining the basis of the sign, smoke, if one forgets the ascertainment of the three modes on each of the individual bases, and later, when stating the proof, a memory of remembering the three modes arises, and from that, inferential cognition arises. In this case, both the wisdom that ascertains the three modes and the memory intervene, but since both are equally memories, it is said that memory intervenes. For the sign of nature, it is mostly similar to this. When it is necessary to establish the property of the subject with the sign, if the three modes are ascertained without interruption after the decisive knowledge that grasps the property of the subject, drawn by the inferential cognition that realizes the property of the subject, then it is a self-serving sign. If one ascertains the three modes on each of the individual bases and then forgets, it becomes a reason in the context of other-serving, which is also similar to the previous one. For the negative sign, although there is no certainty of arising from the mind that grasps the sign and the very thing to be established as the sign, ultimately, when it becomes a reason for establishing the result from the cause, arising from that reason seems to be a secret term of logic. Nowadays, the assertion that the three modes are remembered simultaneously is unexamined, because it is impossible for the conceptualization that grasps the sign on the subject of debate and the conceptualization that grasps the pervasion on the example to arise simultaneously. Therefore, for the self-serving sign, one first remembers the pervasion, and then remembers the property of the subject, from which inferential cognition arises. When one suddenly sees smoke, one ascertains that if there is smoke, then there must be fire, because there is smoke here, therefore there is fire. For the other-serving sign, for the case where the property of the subject precedes, one first remembers the property of the subject, and for the case where the pervasion precedes, one first remembers the pervasion. These two
