The meaning is that the external objects seen by the sense consciousness at its own time, which appear as if they are far away and separated, are not the external objects that have become the objects of the sense consciousness, because the sense consciousness arises with the appearance of external objects, and it is the object-image. Space is apprehended as an object of knowledge through the clarity of form with the thought of excluding others, but the self-nature of what is called permanence is non-existent, like the son of a barren woman. The two cessations should also be understood to be like space. The Vaibhashikas assert that the three unconditioned dharmas are permanent substances, but here, if permanence is established merely by excluding impermanence, then the son of a barren woman is also permanent. If permanence is established by the self-nature of permanence being established, then the three unconditioned dharmas are also not permanent, because if they are established by their own nature, they must be impermanent. If one thinks, "I will produce this result" after the causes and conditions have gathered, then the object that is compounded is non-existent, because the object arises merely from the gathering of causes and conditions. The three times, past, present, and future, are also not accepted as real, because the present is real, but the past and future are not real. However, the form that is accumulated by particles is not non-existent, because if it is the form that is the objective condition of the sense consciousness, then it must be accumulated by many particles. Secondly, the Sautrantikas have five uncommon tenets, among which the first tenet is: the manifestation of the blue-apprehending sense consciousness, which appears as a distant separation at its own time, is consciousness, and it is the consciousness that appears as it is, not merely appearing as such, but the appearance of the image established by the mind when the external object is hidden. The second tenet is: when the external object is hidden, the mind is the cause, and the consciousness with the image of the external object is considered the result. The third tenet is: the apprehending conceptual thought and the non-conceptual mistaken consciousness, their appearing objects do not exist as real objects, and the subject is mistaken. The non-conceptual direct perception of apprehension, its appearing object is established as a real object, and the subject is not mistaken. Among them, the self-cognizing direct perception that experiences consciousness, and the other-cognizing direct perception that focuses on other objects, are the same in nature but different in aspects, such as the direct perception of blue-apprehension, which is the self-

Just as looking at the mother, the experiencer is also self-cognizant perception; just as looking at blue, the object is also other-cognizant perception. Therefore, the objects and experiences of all knowledge are different. That which is like the object is the object, and that which is self-luminous is self-experience. Thus it is said. The fourth assertion is: external objects also have two types, gross and subtle. The gross is the conventional truth, because when particles with parts gather and connect, they project a similar image onto the sense consciousness, and are then grasped as a single whole by conceptual thought, so it is established as gross. The second is the ultimate truth, because the ability to generate sense consciousness resides in it. The fifth assertion is: external objects and the direct perception that realizes them are the grasper and the grasped, but this is only a nominal statement, not in the ultimate truth, because these two are cause and effect, the producer and the produced, so there is no connection in the ultimate truth. Therefore, sense consciousness does not directly grasp external objects, because there is no direct contact with external objects. Thus it is said: external objects are not direct. The third is: this is related to the object, and is not different from the essence of the object. Therefore, the object of measurement is the realized, and the proof is the nature of the object of measurement. Thus it is said, and holding its nature is the realization of the object. The words "object of measurement" and "object" indicate the object of measurement. The words "essence of the object", "nature of the object of measurement" and "nature of the object" indicate the valid cognition. The words "realization of the object of measurement" and "realization of the object" indicate the result. Considering this, Dharmakirti's statement that "the object is the object of measurement, like the object is the valid cognition, and the realization of the object is the result" is the earliest. For the object of measurement, whether it is an external object, or the blue that has become an external object, or the hidden blue, or the blue itself, there is no difference which one is taken as the object of measurement. Here, the valid cognition is said to be the "essence of the object" and the "nature of the object", which refers to the image projected by the object itself, and should not be understood literally. In the case of the result, it is not permissible to understand "realization of the object of measurement" and "valid cognition of the realization of the object" literally, because these exist in inference. The truly realized object
