The fundamental view is because it must be established by valid cognition. Former scholars only spoke of the valid cognition and results of the Sautrāntika and Mind-Only schools regarding true and false appearances, but did not explain the classification of the three results of realization taught here. This also contradicts one's own system, because Dharmottara himself acknowledged that he had stated "this third one," etc. If the third classification is said to be the explanation of the second conceptualization, then if it is said that the deity classified the three results of realization, it is contradictory because the deity directly stated the names of the three results of realization. The definitive treatises of the Pramāṇavārttika prevent the appearance of beauty and ugliness in sense consciousness from being attributed to objects, but they do not merely prevent consciousness from being identical to objects. This is because the treatises explain that one external object appears differently to two sense consciousnesses, which is not permissible in the Mind-Only school. The fourth system is that some scholars say that this is the Mind-Only school. In it, regarding the valid cognition and results of appearance and existence, the first is that in the presence of conceptual mistaken consciousness, external objects are to be measured. In its presence, after the appearance of the aspect of external objects, the newly arisen non-deceptive awareness of it is valid cognition. In its presence, the valid cognition that directly realizes external objects is the result. The second is that the blue that has become the nature of consciousness itself is to be measured, and so on. This is unreasonable because both of these are not the directly stated valid cognition and results here, because the direct statement is that external objects are to be measured and self-awareness is the result. In general, although it is reasonable to have two aspects of valid cognition and results in the Mind-Only school, appearance and existence, it is unreasonable to add the distinction of the words "conceptual mistaken consciousness" to the first. This is because the classification of the valid cognition and results that appear to conceptual mistaken consciousness cannot be determined from treatises on reasoning. The fifth is that some say that they think that the meaning of the Ornament Sutra's "unexamined, extremely examined, etc., these terms are threefold" is that all three valid cognitions and results are the Mind-Only school. The first is unexamined, the second is slightly examined, and the third is the valid cognition and result of extremely examined. Otherwise, there would be an internal contradiction for Dharmakirti, because the first valid cognition and result shows the object-kind as the result, and the second

Some say that this is because (the Buddha) prohibited external objects and showed it as the self-cognizance fruit. If so, the Buddha would have self-contradiction, because some sutras say that there are external objects, while some sutras prohibit external objects and only show it as Vijnanavada. When the Vijnanavada school slightly observes, it admits that the apprehended aspect is the object to be measured, and if it observes deeply, it admits that the external object is the object to be measured. Because there is this commitment. If it is said to establish from the perspective of the fruit, it is unreasonable, because the fruit is the same in self-cognizance. Fifth, some say that this is the measure and fruit of the Sautrantika school when it is not observed, and the Vijnanavada school when it is observed. So, are all three measure and fruits like this? It is like this on the self-cognizance fruit. If according to the first statement, it is unreasonable, because the Sautrantika school does not admit self-cognizance as the fruit when it is not observed, and the Vijnanavada school does not admit the external object as the object to be measured when it is observed. If according to the second statement, it is also unreasonable, because both the Sautrantika and Vijnanavada schools admit the self-cognizance after observation as the fruit. Third, there are three aspects to determine the reasonable aspect: brief explanation, detailed explanation, and refuting disputes. First, in the Pramanavarttika, it says: "Because for the same nature, some people find it pleasing, while others find it displeasing." It also says: "For other differences such as sounds and smells that have no difference, they cannot make the sense consciousness of various beings produce happiness." Therefore, (the sutra) says that the same external object produces different appearances for different sense consciousnesses, so it is not the view of the Vijnanavada school alone. It is said in the context of the measure and fruit of the Vijnanavada school, and in terms of convention, it is reasonable for that school to establish the external object as the object to be measured, so it is not the view of the Sautrantika school alone. Because the self-sectarian doctrine other than these two does not appear in this treatise, this measure and fruit that is directly shown is established as the doctrine of both the Sautrantika and Vijnanavada schools. However, there is a difference in the way of establishing the external object as the object to be measured, and because of its power, there is also a difference in the apprehended aspect, therefore, there is also a difference in what is experienced by self-cognizance, which has been said before and will be said again. Second, it is summarized as: the occasion of the scripture and the object to be measured are also sound, measure and fruit, observation and non-observation, and faith.
