Therefore. All dharmas, because of being devoid of function. Thus it is said, the meaning of which is. Or again, the fruit of self-awareness. With such a phrase, the measure and fruit of consciousness are jointly shown as the fruit. When, etc., it shows that external objects are to be measured. The appearance of this nature in the object. "Measure," as the root commentary shows the apprehended aspect as the measure. By that it measures. Like this and. In the commentary, it measures that and its nature together with the object. Thus, etc., it shows the reason why the apprehended aspect is the measure. All dharmas, because of being devoid of function, thus, when examined in reality, it shows that external objects have no function of consciousness, and indirectly shows that self-awareness is the fruit. The second is. Although external objects exist. Like this, twelve verses. When only the meaning of external objects is taken as the measure, like this and. Or again, the fruit of self-awareness. The one that shows such a meaning is. Although external objects exist. Like this, five verses. The appearance of this nature in the object. The one that shows such a meaning is. At that time, the appearance of meaning is this nature. Like this, four and a half verses. The one that refutes the dispute there is. Because the establishment of meaning is its nature. Like this, two and a half verses. The one that shows the meaning of such various aspects is. Similar to that or different similarity is also fine. Like this, one verse. All dharmas, because of being devoid of function, the one that shows such a meaning is. Like this, like some aspects. Like this, one verse. Therefore, these treatises become three sections of meaning, namely, the reason for establishing self-awareness as the fruit for the external object to be measured. The reason for establishing the apprehended aspect as the measure for the fruit of self-awareness. The reason for establishing the external object as the measure for the apprehended aspect measure. The first is. When the external object is taken as the measure, the aspect that appears to oneself, that is consciousness, but the external object is not the real consciousness. If it is consciousness, then the external object becomes the fault of being the common basis of many beautiful and not beautiful, thus, the one that is. External objects like this, one verse. The one that shows the harm to that acceptance is. Although accepted, like this, three verses. For that reason, when the external object is taken as the measure, it is also reasonable for self-awareness to be the fruit, the one that is. Therefore, also for the external object to be measured

This is one verse. Second, it shows that at that time, the apprehended aspect is also valid. That is: At that time, the appearance of the object, this itself. (Tibetan: དེ་ཚེ་དོན་སྣང་འདི་ཉིད་ནི།), this is one verse. The reason for this is that the valid cognition must establish the realization of the external object in name, but it is the function of the apprehended aspect, not the function of the apprehending aspect. That is: Why the nature of the external object. (Tibetan: གང་ཕྱིར་ཇི་ལྟར་དོན་བདག་དེ།), this is three and a half verses. Among them, avoiding the fallacy that the object of the valid cognition and its result are different, and avoiding the contradiction with the previous statement that the object-consciousness is the result, that is: Because of the nature of the establishment of that object. (Tibetan: དོན་འཇོག་དེ་ཡི་བདག་ཉིད་ཕྱིར།), and, when examining one's own nature. Third, since it is like that, if one does not directly recognize the external object, but only recognizes the aspect of the external object, why should one establish the external object as the object to be measured? Whether it is like the external object, according to the view of the Sutra School; or like the habit, according to the view of the Mind-Only School, in any case, the cause of the root consciousness appearing as the external object in name is the external object itself in name, therefore the external object is established as the object to be measured. That is: Like that or different is also the same. (Tibetan: དེ་དང་འདྲ་བའམ་གཞན་འདྲའང་རུང་།), this is one verse. According to the former, it is the cause of generating the aspect; according to the latter, it is the meaning of the object-condition of appearance. Then, if one examines, doesn't the root consciousness become not recognizing the external object? Answer: Yes. According to the Sutra School, the two are cause and effect, therefore when one thing exists, the other thing does not exist; according to the Mind-Only School, because the external object itself is not established. That is: How like some aspects. (Tibetan: ཇི་ལྟར་རྣམ་པ་འགའ་ཞིག་ལྟར།), this is one verse. Shantideva said: Because the object-consciousness is the self-nature. Up to this point, the valid cognition and its result have been completely shown, and the latter two verses are mentioned incidentally. The third part has three points: the reasons shown in the scriptures and commentaries, the reasons examined by the previous scholars, and the determination of the reasonable aspect. The first point: In general, in "when" etc., and here, "external object, if it exists, is also like that" (Tibetan: ཕྱི་རོལ་དོན་ནི་ཡོད་ན་ཡང་།), and "therefore, the external object is the object to be measured" (Tibetan: དེ་ཕྱིར་ཕྱི་རོལ་གཞལ་བྱ་ལའང་།), and "the object is the self-nature of the object to be measured" (Tibetan: དོན་ནི་གཞལ་བྱ་ཉིད་དུ་འདོད།), these all show that the external object is the object to be measured. In general, "appearing as the object is this" (Tibetan: ཡུལ་དུ་སྣང་བ་ཉིད་འདི་ཡི།) is valid cognition, and here, "at that time, the appearance of the object, this itself" (Tibetan: དེ་ཚེ་དོན་སྣང་འདི་ཉིད་ནི།) is valid cognition, these all show that the apprehended aspect is valid cognition.
