Therefore, those who assert the doctrine of complete falsity, even if they strive until the end of the kalpa, will not understand this truth, and will also be confused about the distinction between truth and falsehood. The second point is that both truth and falsehood agree that, in conventional terms, blue, which is an external object, can be measured. For the consciousness arising from the stabilization of habitual patterns, the apprehended aspect of the clear appearance of blue is a valid cognition. In conventional terms, the external object blue is considered the manifest result of knowing the object. To prove this, there are three ways: proving through scripture, proving through reasoning, and explaining the meaning of conventional terms. The first is, in the "Object Examination": "The nature of inner consciousness, whatever appears as an external object, is the nature of the object itself, because it is the nature of consciousness, and also because it is its cause." The first two lines of this verse establish the basis for establishing an external object in conventional terms, and by "nature of the object itself" it shows that it is established as the nature of the object in conventional terms. By "nature of consciousness" it shows that for the object, consciousness is its own nature. The last line of the verse shows that in conventional terms, since the relationship of non-arising without it is established, it is given the name of objective condition. Similarly, in the "Pramanaviniscaya": "The existing object is the nature of self-awareness, therefore, even though it is self-awareness, it should be regarded as knowing the object from the perspective of the result." And in the "Pramanavarttika": "Because establishing the object is its nature, even though it is self-awareness, it is considered to be knowing the object." The meaning of what is said is also that, in conventional terms, the sense consciousness that is established as knowing the object, when it appears in its own time, for the object, consciousness is its own nature, but since the result of the sense consciousness is ascertainment consciousness, and in the mind of ascertainment consciousness it is an external object, so in conventional terms it is established as an object. The so-called "from the perspective of the result" is because the result of the sense consciousness is ascertainment consciousness. It also says: "When the consciousness aspect is established as an object, because it has been established." And "That itself is completely determined as an object." These previously cited root texts and commentaries also show that in conventional terms, the external object can be measured. In summary, in the "Tattvasamgraha": "In conventional truth, like the Sautrantikas, knowing the object is the valid result, because establishing the object is its nature, so even though it is self-awareness, it is considered to be knowing the object. In any case, it is the manner of two kinds of minds." Thus it is said. The second point is that for all proponents of philosophical systems,

Regarding the two ways of establishing things, one is based on rational analysis, and the other is according to how it is commonly known in worldly terms. Therefore, both of these are necessary here as well. Among them, when analyzing with the two kinds of valid cognition and the reasoning that establishes self-awareness, although the appearance in the sense consciousness at the present time refutes that it is an external object, in worldly terms, it is established as an external object. Because, as it is said in the sutra: 'How a thing is its own nature, as it abides in consciousness, this is how it abides, the one that determines it is self-awareness.' Therefore, worldly people use terms such as clean and unclean, blue and non-blue, etc., for the appearance in the sense consciousness at the present time. Therefore, according to the scriptures of the Compendium of Valid Cognition, this, which is an external object in name, also needs the habit of stable imprints. Third, what is the meaning of terms? For all, whether they have entered a philosophical system or not, the definite knowledge derived from the two valid cognitions that are common to all is established as the term of definite knowledge of mind; the expressive sounds derived from that definite knowledge are established as the term of expressive sound. Thus, the valid cognition derived from such definite knowledge is established as the valid cognition that is universally termed, which is clearly stated in the Compendium of Valid Cognition. Its meaning is stated in the Treasury of Reasoning: 'If it appears as it is, then for other Tibetans, not even words will appear, let alone the meaning.' If one recognizes such terms, then one can understand that in the view of the Realists, if it exists in terms, then existence is not pervasive; while in the view of the Madhyamikas, it is pervasive. This is because there is a difference in whether or not one accepts existence from the perspective of rational analysis. Third, if one cuts off doubts about the measure and result of meaning and intelligence and analyzes them, then there are three aspects to showing self-awareness as the result: how it is explained in the sutras; how it is explained in the Compendium of Valid Cognition; and determining the meaning of these. First, the sutra says: 'When only the external object is made the object to be measured, then this appearance as an object itself is measured by that valid cognition.' Thus, when the appearance of an object, such as white and non-white, appears in consciousness, then it measures its own nature related to the object. Thus, if one accepts multiple consciousnesses that recognize multiple appearances, then one establishes them as valid cognition and object to be measured.
