It is said that they know through the way of appearance. Some say that there is no wisdom in the realm of the Buddha. This is unreasonable because manifest and inferential cognition have already been blocked. If the past and future present themselves in their own form, then these two will become substantial. If appearances arise due to the power of habit, then the object-possessor will become conceptual. According to the latter, it would follow that there is no omniscient wisdom. Therefore, one cannot measure the way he knows knowable objects with a limited mind, because the way he knows them is inconceivable. Third, regarding the reasoning for establishing, there are three: establishing the essence, establishing the characteristics, and refuting what is unreasonable about what has been established. The first is divided into establishing what has already happened in the past, and establishing what will happen in the future. The first is: If the difference of words is determined, then one can also infer what happened in the past. It is said that if the ornament is in accordance with the meaning and without contradiction to what is explained to others, then it pervades the direct realization of that object. For example, like explaining one's own object. The authors of texts such as the Eight Thousand Verse Prajnaparamita Sutra also explain to others in a way that is consistent with the meaning and without contradiction. Based on this reason, it is established that the yoga direct perception of knowing the object has preceded them. So, how is the difference of words determined? And how is the past inferred from the difference of words? First, there are three: identifying the words, identifying the difference of the words, and grasping the way of determining them. The first is the scriptures of the Sugata. The second is that when showing the three objects to be measured, there is no contradiction with the three valid cognitions. The third is that merely not contradicting the manifest when showing the manifest is not the difference of the words here, because ordinary people and outsiders also have this characteristic. Merely not contradicting the force of reality inference when showing some hidden things is also not the difference of the words here, because it is the same as the former. Therefore, it is necessary to regard the determination of the main hidden things, such as the four noble truths as they are shown, by the force of reality valid cognition as the difference of the words here. When explaining the inverted way of offering praise in the sutras, the nature of protection is explained as being established by the force of reality valid cognition, just as the four noble truths, the main hidden things to be measured, are shown as they are.

Therefore, the way to infer prior existence from that is like the Perfection of Wisdom in Eight Thousand Lines, which is a dharma that is established as not deceiving the very hidden, because all three places to be measured are shown as objects to be expressed. Because the main hidden subject, the four noble truths, is established as not deceiving. Therefore, that dharma, with its expression of the very hidden being realized by direct yogic perception, is a scripture that does not deceive its expression of the very hidden, and relying on this reasoning, one can infer that direct yogic perception existed previously. As it is said, "When the nature of what to take and discard, is well determined with means, it does not deceive the meaning of the subject, that is the inference of others." And, "Protecting that nature and teaching, and knowing all the differences, is established." So it is. Second, there are two: establishing permanence and establishing the mode. First, as shown by "Therefore, true, not true," etc., and "Thus, familiarizing with the previous," etc. The mind that meditates on emptiness, if it is familiarized without being separated from the cause of familiarization, then it will definitely produce a clear appearance on the meaning of what is to be familiarized with. Because it is a stable basis, familiarity itself turns into a difference, because it is meditation. Second, there are two: establishing the property and establishing pervasion. First, there are three: establishing a stable basis, establishing familiarity itself turning into a difference, and establishing that it is meditation. First, there are two: establishing the beginningless prior limit of intelligence and establishing the beginningless posterior limit. First, as in "Therefore, definitely that," etc., and "Not a consciousness, not of consciousness, also established because not closely appropriated," etc., the intelligence that is just born, has a prior intelligence, because it is intelligence. This property is established by the experience of one's own continuum. In terms of establishing pervasion, the Carvakas say that the intelligence that is just born is not preceded by a prior intelligence, because there is no prior birth. In response to this, one should combine the reasonings that prevent the absence of a prior birth, as stated in the chapter on establishing valid cognition. Second, there are two: establishing the endless clarity with self-grasping and establishing the endless clarity without self-grasping. First, as in "Therefore, the basis of the mind's abiding," etc.
