It is unreasonable to assume that all consciousnesses that clearly manifest forms are eye consciousnesses. According to the fourth case, the mental direct perception that apprehends the final moment of a candle is the subject. It follows that the final moment of the candle should be your object of apprehension, because you have your object of apprehension, and other than that, your other objects of apprehension are not reasonable. It cannot be admitted, because between you and it, there is a sense direct perception that apprehends the final moment of the candle. The thesis is accepted. Some followers, wanting to avoid this fault, say that the mental direct perception arises at the end of the continuum because the objective condition continuously arises, and there is no mental direct perception that arises without apprehending the cessation of the objective condition. This is unreasonable, because if, in the case where the objective condition continuously arises, the mental direct perception arises at the end of the completion of the sense direct perception continuum, and there is a difference that the mental direct perception does not arise when the continuum is not complete, then it follows that the three conditions of the mental direct perception are not complete when the continuum is not complete. If it is said that the conditions are complete, but the sense direct perception continuously arises, which hinders its arising, it is unreasonable, because the three conditions of the mental direct perception are its direct cause, and no one can hinder the direct cause from producing the direct effect. Otherwise, at that time, does the continuous arising of the sense direct perception hinder the arising of all mental consciousnesses in general, or does it hinder the arising of non-conceptual mental consciousness? If it is the first case, then when the eye consciousness manifests a clear image, there will be no arising of the conception that grasps "this is a form." If it is the second case, if it cannot hinder the arising of mental conception, how can it hinder the arising of non-conceptual mental consciousness? It cannot hinder it. Furthermore, it follows that there should be a mental direct perception that manifests clear images in the continuum of a blind person, because the objective condition of the sense direct perception that apprehends forms continuously arises, and after the sense direct perception that apprehends forms ceases, the mental direct perception that apprehends forms arises. If admitted, then it contradicts "therefore, the blind person does not see," and so on. Some say that the second moment of sense direct perception is a mental direct perception because it arises from the co-emergent condition of the mental faculty, and it is a sense direct perception because it arises from the co-emergent condition of the material sense faculty, so it is distinguished by way of opposites.

This is not reasonable, because the second moment of the sense consciousness of double moon appearance is born from the co-emergent dependent mind, so it would be the fault that the mind consciousness is an illusion. The feeling of the second moment of the sense consciousness should be a mental feeling, because it is the consciousness of the mind. It cannot be agreed, because it should be a body feeling. Second, the sutra says: Monks, there are two kinds of consciousness of form, namely relying on the eye and the mind. The Pramana Sutra says: The mind also has objects. Its commentary says: The mind also enters in the form of focusing on and experiencing form, etc., that is, only without conceptualization. Its meaning is determined in the "Meaning Determination": The root consciousness arises from the immediate cause, and immediately grasps that meaning, this is the mind. In determining the meaning of these statements, there are two types: determining the mode of generation and calculating the modes of direct perception, etc. First, it is not generated simultaneously with or before the first moment of root direct perception, because if it is mind direct perception, it must be generated from its own immediate cause root direct perception. Therefore, it arises after the first moment of root direct perception, and it is not generated at the end of the exhaustion of the continuum of root direct perception, because there is the fault of establishing the supreme Dharma. When the continuum is not exhausted, it is not generated alternately like ornaments, so it is generated simultaneously, and the way is that the first moment of root direct perception acts as the co-emergent condition and the immediate condition. At the same time, the external object acts as the objective condition, and at the same time as the second moment of root direct perception, the first moment of mind direct perception is generated as a separate entity, and from then on, when the continuum of root direct perception is not exhausted, it is generated in the same number. Second, at this time, if the mode of direct perception is calculated, it will become three modes, that is, looking outward, there are two modes of root direct perception and mind direct perception, and looking inward, there is one mode of self-awareness direct perception that experiences the two. The mode of objective condition will become five, that is, when there are five sets of three conditions at the same time, five second moments of root direct perception and five first moments of mind direct perception will be generated, a total of ten, but the second moment of form-grasping root direct perception and form-grasping.
