All cognitions depend solely on the eye. If it were not so, then some cognitions would not depend on the eye. Thus it is said. Furthermore, it is asserted that mental direct perception is established only by scriptural authority, and not by the authority of the power of objects. As it is said in that very text: 'The term that is extremely famous from the side of establishment is to show that mental direct perception is extremely famous from the side of establishment. To establish mental direct perception, one should not seek other valid cognitions.' This is what is to be expressed. If asked, how are the divisions of direct perception arranged? If mental direct perception exists, then this is its definition. The author of the sutra, in order to avert the dispute made against the acceptance of what is extremely famous from the side of establishment, because the sutra says: 'Monks, there are two kinds of knowing form, namely, relying on the eye and relying on the mind.' Only these are the means of its establishment. Thus it is said. The great Brahmin says: Initially, only one moment of sense direct perception arises, and thereafter, until the continuum of sense direct perception is exhausted, sense direct perception and mental direct perception arise in equal numbers. Sense direct perception arises from its preceding similar type, therefore it has a continuum. Mental direct perception does not arise from its preceding similar type, but arises directly from the causal sense direct perception, therefore it has no continuum. At that time, when looking outward, there are two ways of cognizing objects; when looking inward, there is one way of self-cognition. It is considered that there are three ways of direct perception. Thus, among the three systems, the assertion of the nature of mental direct perception by the Ornamentalist is unreasonable. If mental direct perception makes the object manifest before, and sense direct perception does not, then does the meaning of making the object manifest before refer to the appearance of the object? Or does it refer to the function of determining the object? If according to the first, if it refers to the appearance of a naked state without aspects, then the Sautrantika has refuted it. If it refers to the appearance of an aspect endowed by the object, then it is the same for sense direct perception, because for sense direct perception as well, there is the appearance of an aspect endowed by the object. If according to the second, then mental direct perception, the subject, is a thesis, it follows that it is conceptual. Because it is a consciousness that performs the function of determining the object. It is also unreasonable for sense direct perception and mental direct perception to arise alternately in equal numbers. Because in the case of being equal in number and without a continuum, the ease or difficulty of determination and the determination of the object

Because the difference between being able to lead and not being able to lead is not reasonable. Furthermore, the three causes of the first moment of eye-consciousness actually produce their own result, which is eye-consciousness. The difference that the three causes of eye-consciousness at the same time do not actually produce their own result, which is eye-consciousness, is reasonable. Immediately after the beginning of the first moment of eye-consciousness, mind-consciousness arises, and the difference that eye-consciousness does not arise is reasonable. It is not possible to think so, because that is the direct cause of its own result, which is eye-consciousness. This is pervasive, because: For the cause without deficiency, how can the result be prevented? Because it is said like that. Second, regarding Dharmottara's view, from the two aspects of the essence being unreasonable and the mode of arising being unreasonable. First, the three causes of mind-consciousness and the mode of arising cannot be established by direct perception, because mind-consciousness cannot be established by direct perception. If it is said that those are also established only by scriptural authority, then it is not reasonable, even if the three causes can be established by scriptural authority, there is no established pure scripture that shows the way mind-consciousness arises at the end of the continuum. Furthermore, for non-Buddhist with unpierced ears, mind-consciousness cannot be established by valid cognition, because for them, it cannot be established by direct perception, nor by scriptural authority. The first as a subject is admitted. The second is established, because they do not accept the scriptures that show mind-consciousness as valid scriptures. Second, is it that only mind-consciousness that holds the last moment of the candle arises, and eye-consciousness does not arise? Or is it the opposite? Or do the two arise simultaneously? Or does mind-consciousness arise at the end of the completion of the eye-consciousness that holds it? If it is like the first case, it is not reasonable, because: Like this, a child without signs, and a person born later, seeing the destruction of irrelevant candles, etc., completely cuts off (doubt). Because it is said like that, and at the time of the last moment of the candle, its three causes are complete. If it is like the second case, the continuum of the candle and the eye-consciousness that holds it will be interrupted, if it is the eye-consciousness that holds the candle, then it is pervasive that mind-consciousness does not arise at the end of the interruption of its own continuum. Because it has been promised like that. If admitted, then it contradicts the arising of mind-consciousness at the end of the completion of the continuum of eye-consciousness. If it is like the third case, in the state of having the eye faculty
