That is, in the very nature of being all-illuminating. It is also said that the intention changes to enter. Because of familiarity, the intention for that is. From what does it become without change? Thus it is said. Secondly, if the mind that ascertains that color is impermanent is the third aggregate that is not included in the two valid cognitions, then does it act on the mind that understands that color is impermanent from the sign of being made? Or does it act on the ascertainment that color is impermanent, which arises after the direct perception of grasping color? If it is like the former, then not being included in the two valid cognitions is not established, because inference is a valid cognition. If it is like the latter, then being a valid cognition is not established, because it is a decisive cognition. Thirdly, it is not reasonable for the mind of recognition to be the third aggregate that is not included in the two valid cognitions, because it is not a valid cognition. Fourthly, all the valid cognitions that are understood by meaning, and the valid cognition of analogy, etc., which are considered valid cognitions that are not included in the two valid cognitions, are not reasonable, because those that are valid cognitions are included in the two categories of direct perception and inference, and those that are not included in them are not valid cognitions, because there is no third way of understanding the object to be measured other than the way of understanding based on experience and the way of understanding based on signs. Sixth, in general, if names are divided from the point of view of what they express, then a name like "Devadatta" depends on the name, and a name like "tree" depends on the genus. If they are divided from the point of view of their essence, then a name like "omniscient" is a name that takes explanation as its reason, and a name like "pot" is a name that takes function as its reason. In this case, there are three types: explanation and function are contradictory, not contradictory, and contradictory and not contradictory. The first is like the word "sparrow drinking oil" and the word "shepherdess". The second is like the word "omniscient" and the word "eye consciousness". The third is the third type of contradiction, for example, in the case of the word "sea-born", the function refers to the lotus, and the explanation is that it is called sea-born because it is born from the sea. In this case, there are three types: the lotus born from the sea has both explanation and function; the lotus born from the land has function but no explanation; and the frog born from the sea has explanation but no function. Then, like a dead tree born from the land, it is a side that has neither explanation nor function.

Why is Śāntideva not counted? Because there is no fault. This is because it does not depend on the name of Padmasambhava. Similarly, there are three aspects to direct perception and one aspect to inference. The Sanskrit word for direct perception is Prati Aksha, where Prati means each and Aksha refers to the senses, so relying on each sense is called direct perception. Among these, the first two direct perceptions can both explain and apply, while the latter two can only apply but not explain. For erroneous sensory consciousness, it can be explained but not applied. The Sanskrit word for inference is Anumana, where Anu means after or following and Mana means measuring, so because, in the case where the basis of the subject is established and the relationship is certain, the object to be proven is measured, inference can both explain and apply. Second, refuting misconceptions about the definition is divided into two: refuting misconceptions about the definition of direct perception and refuting misconceptions about the definition of inference. The first is divided into two: refuting the notion that something that is not direct perception is direct perception, and refuting the notion that something that is direct perception is not direct perception. The first is further divided into three: refuting the notion that mistaking the object, mistaking the time, and mistaking the form are direct perception. The first is: Some people think that the consciousness that takes the light of a jewel to be a jewel is a direct perception of the jewel's own characteristic, which is unreasonable because the jewel's own characteristic does not present a form similar to itself from its own side. Regarding the analysis of what type of consciousness this is, and how the commentaries explain it, analyzing the reasonableness and unreasonableness separately, and identifying the key points, there are these three aspects. The first aspect is divided into three views: considering it inference, considering it direct perception, and considering it illusion. The first view is: The two, Deva and Śākya, consider it inference that from the sign of the light of a jewel, one infers that there is a jewel in that place. Deva says in the first reversing syllogism that the light of a jewel is not necessarily the consciousness of a jewel. Śākya says that the first reversing syllogism is that whatever is not valid cognition will not become illusion, and so on. The light of a jewel is not necessarily the consciousness of a jewel, even if it is an illusion, it does not deceive with respect to the actual jewel, therefore it is valid cognition. Therefore, it does not deceive.
