If it is said that there is no need to show both, then the answer to this is that some say that in the practice of the harmful path, the reason of independence is spoken of, because the harmful can establish the destruction of all things, and before that it must be established that all independent things are destroyed independently of the cause other than their own cause, it is unreasonable to say so, because the refutable wrong conceptions of the two reasons exist separately, because if one wants all things to be destroyed, one will not use the harmful reason, and if one wants all things not to be destroyed, one will not use the independent reason. Therefore, in order to counteract the two wrong conceptions, the two reasons are spoken of separately, and in order to counteract the wrong conception that all things are not destroyed, the harmful is spoken of, and in order to counteract the wrong conception that although it is generally destroyed, it depends on the cause of destruction arising after its own cause and is destroyed by other things, the independent reason is spoken of. Second, there are two determinants for determining the relationship of that arising: determining the cause and effect to be determined, and how to determine it. First, there are two types: nature and classification. The first is: the nature of cause and effect is in order: by the power of benefiting one's other later things, it becomes the place to follow and stop, and by the power of benefiting one's other previous things, it follows and stops. Second, there are two types: the classification of causes and the classification of effects. First, the Vaibhashikas say: "The maker, co-emergent, and, Equal parts, similar possession, Pervasive and Vipaka, Cause is thought of as six kinds." Thus, it is thought that there are six kinds of causes, but here, the maker cause, the co-emergent cause, and the similar cause are not the nature of the cause, because the maker cause is not the one who benefits, and the latter two are simultaneous with the effect. The other three must also be acknowledged as causes here, because the equal part cause and the Vipaka cause are mentioned, and the pervasive cause is included in the equal part cause. Therefore, if the cause is classified, there are two types: the equal part cause and the Vipaka cause, or the proximate cause and the co-operative

There are two causes. Regarding the second point, the Vaibhashikas believe in five fruits: the Vipaka fruit, the Nisyananda fruit, the Visamyoga fruit, the Purusakara fruit, and the Adhipati fruit. However, here, we acknowledge the first two fruits as described by the Vaibhashikas. The third fruit is not established because it is non-existent. The fifth and fourth fruits are acknowledged, but not in the same way as the Vaibhashikas, because there is no simultaneous cause and effect, and all conditioned phenomena are not mutual causes and effects. So, what are the examples of these two fruits? For example, the previous moment of the path of seeing is the Purusakara fruit of the supreme Dharma of the path of application, and this container world is like the Adhipati fruit of the common karma of sentient beings. Regarding the second point, there are three aspects: refutation, establishment, and abandonment. First, the refutation: Some say that it is necessary to determine cause and effect through five sets of valid cognitions, that is, first, the valid cognition of not perceiving both fire and smoke, then the valid cognition of perceiving fire, then the valid cognition of perceiving smoke, then the valid cognition of not perceiving fire, and then the valid cognition of not perceiving smoke, because this is how it is determined. This is unreasonable, because even through five sets of circumstantial concomitance and counter-concomitance, one cannot determine cause and effect, while through three sets of essential concomitance and counter-concomitance, one can determine cause and effect. The first argument is established, otherwise, in some cases, both the sound of a drum and the sunlight are not perceived, then the sound of a drum is perceived, then the sunlight is perceived, then the sound of a drum is not perceived, and then the sunlight is also not perceived, so these two should also become cause and effect. The second argument is established, because through essential concomitance and counter-concomitance, either the three sets of forward concomitance with non-perception preceding, or the three sets of forward counter-concomitance with perception preceding, can determine cause and effect. Otherwise, if it is necessary to determine five sets, then if it is cause and effect, it is necessary to determine both the prior limit and the posterior limit. If it is a valid cognition that determines cause and effect, then first it is necessary not to perceive both cause and effect, and finally it is also necessary not to perceive both cause and effect. Some think that it is necessary to determine through three sets of valid cognitions.
