Also. If the strengths are equal, then the harm is equal, like dying together. If the strengths are not equal, then the greater strength causes greater harm, and the lesser strength causes lesser harm, because their effects are contradictory. Second, the definition. Any dharma that is devoid of its own negation, or when something is established, there is no confusion about negating what is not that, for example, when blue is established, there is no confusion about negating what is not blue. If it is said that the continuity of hot and cold becomes mutually contradictory, then it is accepted, because the two contradictions of hot and cold exist in one entity, as explained in the Small Treatise on Valid Cognition. Some also add the definition of "continuity does not revert," and consider it to be mutually exclusive contradictions. If classified, there are direct contradictions and indirect contradictions. The definition of the first is: easily established determination and complete exclusion, the entity is one, or any dharma is devoid of any dharma, and only abides in its own negation, determination and reversion, that is, on one basis, negating non-blue and establishing blue. The definition of the second is: both or either of the contradictory pairs are distinguished by determination and complete exclusion, such as blue and yellow. If classified, there are two types: distinguished by direct contradiction and not distinguished. These also become six types from the aspect of contradiction of entity and reverse, entity direct contradiction, such as permanent and impermanent. Entity distinguished by direct contradiction, such as permanent and made. Not distinguished, such as blue and yellow. Reverse direct contradiction, such as non-affirmation and affirmation, and whether it is a reason or not. Reverse distinguished by direct contradiction, such as non-affirmation and the reverse of knowable, and non-reason and the reason of made. Not distinguished, such as the reverse of made and the reverse of impermanent. Second, these are not the views of Dharmakirti, because smoke contradicts fire, and the reverse of made contradicts the reverse of impermanent, because they have the common definition of contradiction and the definition of mutual exclusion contradiction. If admitted, then smoke can both prevent fire and establish fire, becoming capable of both, and made can both prevent impermanence and establish impermanence, becoming capable of both. These two contradict those.

Because it is a common basis related to... If it is not pervasive, then it is unreasonable to establish the proposition of using contradiction as a reason to prevent the contradictory party, and using relation as a reason to establish the object of relation. For example, smoke, it is necessarily a harm-doer to fire, because it contradicts fire. This is pervasive. As it is said in the Pramāṇavārttika: "Therefore, only that which harms what is to be established is a contradiction." It is also unreasonable to consider the mutually exclusive contradiction as a distinction of the mutually exclusive contradiction, because the place and function on which these two depend are different. The mutually exclusive contradiction is established in a place where both contradictory parties truly exist, and the function is to prevent the existence of the contradictory party. The mutually exclusive contradiction is established in a place where neither of the contradictory parties truly exists, and the function is to prevent becoming the contradictory party. As Dharmakīrti said: "The nature of existing by excluding is a contradiction of one's own nature. A contradiction that is not like this is not included by this, because the mutually exclusive exists on two natures, and this is a fruit without oneness, just as permanence and impermanence, the difference is arranged." It is also unreasonable to consider the way of mutually exclusive contradiction as mutually harming, because clinging to truth would become a harm-doer to the wisdom of realizing the non-existence of truth. It is also unreasonable to think that indirect contradiction is not distinguished by direct contradiction, because establishing as indirect contradiction depends on direct contradiction. Second, establishing one's own system: All knowable things are included in two types, one and different. In the first type, contradiction cannot be established, and the second type is divided into three types: different aspects of the same entity, difference by negating oneness, and different substances. In the first type, because the relationship of the same entity is established, there is no possibility of contradiction. In the second type, mutually exclusive contradiction is established. The third type is divided into three types: harmer and harmed, benefactor and benefited, and neither benefit nor harm. In the first type, mutually exclusive contradiction is established, such as hot and cold. In the second type, the relationship of arising from that is established, such as fire and smoke. In the third type, there is no contradiction or explanation, such as blue and yellow. Regarding the definition of contradiction, saying "any dharma that harms other dharmas" is just a rough description without distinguishing the basis. If the basis is distinguished, then dharma...
