To establish this, there are two types of proof: reasoning and scripture. The first is: the name of a pot should appear in the auditory consciousness when hearing the sound "pot." Because the sound "pot" is its name. If accepted, then the auditory consciousness should have the connection between the name and meaning of "pot" and "bloated belly" as its object of appearance. Because of accepting that. If accepted, then that should be conceptual thought. Because it is a consciousness in one's own continuum that makes the conventional connection its object of appearance. The second is that in the Abhidharma, it is also said that name, sentence, and letter are not complete, they are formations, so they are the aggregate of formations; and sound is explained as the aggregate of form. In the treatises on reasoning, it is also said, "Words and so on are all imputed and unreal," thus saying that name and word are unreal; "Destruction is only related to what exists, therefore sound is impermanent." Thus, sound is said to be impermanent, so it is established as real. The self-view is: the general sound that appears to show only the essence of things from the gathering of many letters. Second, the division has two types: real name and imputed name. Some say: For that thing, the audible sound that is initially conventionally designated arbitrarily and can understand that thing without error at the time of expression is the definition of the real name of that thing. For example, the sound of saying "pot" is the real name of a gold pot, because it is its name and not its imputed name. If not established, then the gold pot should be the imputed name of the pot. For that thing, the audible sound that is conventionally designated later by using the basis of using that thing as a real name and establishing any similarity or connection as a reason is said to be the definition of the imputed name of that thing. To this, others say: The sound "pot," you (referring to the sound "pot") should make the person seeking the meaning of the pot not understand it as a silver pot, but only understand it as a gold pot. Because you are its real name. The pervasion is established, because "Completely abandoning what is other than that, it also expresses sound as a change of understanding." Saying this is unreasonable, because that scripture is spoken in terms of the object of convention, not in terms of the object of name. Furthermore, if you say the sound "lion," you should only make it understood as the king of beasts. Because you are its real name. The sign and pervasion are both accepted. It cannot be accepted, because you sometimes

Because it will involve the son of a Brahmin. The previous view is also unreasonable, because if it is a name, it must not be a sound, which has already been said. Furthermore, the sound 'vase' is not the real name of a golden vase, because it is the real name of a silver vase. Acknowledge this difference. Some also say that the definitions of these two are respectively: a name that can understand the non-commonality of that thing, and a name that can understand the commonality of that thing. Then, the real name of a vase should be a name that can understand the non-commonality of a vase, because it is its real name. If you admit it, then it is not right, because it is used by convention. Because, for what is used by convention, why must it be non-common? Because the scripture says, 'What is established by how it is famous, because it is true and similar to it, for whom is that a common saying.' Regarding this, some say that the real name of a vase should be a name that can understand the vase without error, because it is the real name of the vase. If you admit it, then the conceptual thought that relies on the name of the vase should be able to understand the vase without error, because that is what is admitted. It cannot be admitted, because that is an illusion about it. If you say so, then the conceptual thought that appears as appearance should not appear as appearing there, because it is conceptual thought there. Acknowledge this pervasion. Furthermore, there is no name that can understand that thing without error, because if it is a conceptual thought that relies on the name of that thing, it must be an illusion about that thing. It cannot be admitted, because the scripture says, 'What is the scope of the convention of the first consciousness without error, that is the real.' If we distinguish from the real name, there are two types: real names with explanatory reasons and real names with reasons for use. The first is like the name 'Omniscient,' and the second is like the name 'vase.' If we distinguish from the imputed name, there are those with similarity as the reason and those with connection as the reason.
