It is not you. If asked, by what reason is it also established from the perspective of the nature of things? The answer is: because the nature is the same for all. That is, for all things that are the same in their function, the appearance is also the same. Because it has been said (in the scriptures) that this is the meaning of "following nature." The meaning of these treatises is that the apprehended aspect that appears in conceptual thought, because it is a self-character, is not a general character in things, but because it is the basis of universal superimposition, it can also be used as a general term. Since there is doubt as to whether these appearances are following general characters, in order to dispel this doubt, it is said (in the scriptures): "If it is not different from consciousness, how can it follow another thing?", and "The wisdom of the general character is also confused," and so on. Therefore, it should be understood that (in the scriptures) it is said in this way. Therefore, if one thinks that understanding these meanings is equivalent to understanding the general character of things, then one does not have the ability to understand the meaning of the treatises. In short, as it is said in the *Jewel of Reasoning*: "If one speaks of the image of conceptual thought, if one speaks of the self-character as the object of expression, the opposite of the self-character is not the object of expression, what is established by confusion is unreal." If one understands the meaning of this statement, there will be no reason to not understand this. The fourth question is that it is inferred that there is no valid cognition that measures unreal things. If it is the object of valid cognition that is the cause of acceptance and rejection, then it must be a self-character. The answer is that there is no fault, because the valid cognition that measures unreal things is used to judge whether self-character exists. Regarding these, as it is said in the *Jewel of Reasoning*: "If it is said that holding two objects is contradictory?", up to the meaning of the five and a half verses between "for the sake of accomplishment, there is no contradiction" has been explained without error. The second part is divided into two parts: debate and answer. The first part is: it is unreasonable to think that the object of measurement of the apprehended object is the only self-character. Because the apprehended object that is the external object has been rejected by the wise; because the apprehended object that is consciousness is not accepted. The second part is divided into three parts: generally explaining the establishment of tenets, refuting the establishment of others, and establishing the tenets of the Sugata. The first part is: among the non-Buddhists, those who claim nature as the cause, think that nature is the cause; the Ishvara school thinks that Ishvara is the cause; the Samkhya school thinks that Prakriti is the cause; the Vaisheshika school and the two schools of the Shravakas

The Sarvastivadins consider atoms to be the cause (of the arising of things), the Mind-Only school considers all appearances to be mind, and those who assert no self-nature consider all dharmas to be free from elaboration in ultimate truth, but in conventional truth, they are the same as those who assert reality, or the same as worldly consensus. Second, it is unreasonable to consider self-nature as the cause, because it is harmed by the reasoning that prevents arising from no cause. It is also unreasonable to consider Ishvara and Atman as the cause, because it is harmed by the reasoning that prevents the production of effects from permanent phenomena. Third, it is divided into two parts: determining the intention and how the teacher made the decision. The first part is: When the Sugata enters into nomenclature, he approves of atoms. There are two schools of thought on this: the Sarvastivada and the Sautrantika. When entering the suchness of nomenclature, he approves of Mind-Only, which has two types: true appearance and false appearance. When entering the suchness of ultimate truth, he considers all dharmas to be free from elaboration. This is Madhyamaka. Some people rely on this part of the 'Commentary on the Treasury of Reasoning' and say that the doctrine of the 'Treasury of Reasoning' is to transform the ultimate intention of the 'Pramāṇavārttika' into Madhyamaka, which is simply raising a banner that shows one's own crude wisdom. Among the many internal and external schools mentioned above, here it is shown that there are four Buddhist schools. Among these four schools, since the decision of the Sautrantika and Mind-Only schools in this 'Pramāṇavārttika' will be combined with the following chapters, there is no need to create such a mistake. The second part is: Thus, among the four Buddhist schools, which one did the teacher decide? There are two types: meaning and appearance. When acknowledging the first, the Sarvastivada's view that root consciousness directly takes and abandons external objects that are simultaneous with itself in a non-conceptual way is rejected. Instead, from the aggregation of three conditions in the previous moment, the root consciousness with the aspect of the object arises in the second moment, and thus the view of the Sautrantika school that external objects are understood is approved. The teacher himself said, "If I enter into the observation of external objects, I will rely on the view of the Sautrantika." It is said that this is what the teacher said.
