Therefore, regarding the measure that is recognized by all, whether or not they have entered a sect, by identifying it, the purpose of the occasion is to establish the Teacher as a person of measure. Because after identifying "non-deception, no unknown, clear meaning," it is said below, "The Bhagavan who possesses these is the measure itself." The meaning of the measure recognized by all, whether or not they have entered a sect, is, as stated in the *Pramanaviniscaya*: "Obtaining benefit and avoiding harm are preceded by correct decisive knowledge," as shown from that point, it is the knowledge that becomes the cause of acceptance and rejection for things that can produce benefit and harm. Such a measure, the things that can produce benefit that are to be taken and the things that can produce harm that are to be rejected are only particulars. Because only particulars can produce benefit and harm, universals cannot produce these. Because this is the result of having acceptance and rejection, "all persons enter." And, "It cannot accomplish meaning, what is the use of seeking meaning?" Because it was said that way. When the unique particular is measured as a direct measure of meaning consciousness, it is the object to be taken; when measured as an inferential measure, it is the object to be apprehended. Relying on these two measures, when a person enters, because it is not deceptive, it is also the object of entry. Considering this meaning, in the *Rigs gter rang 'grel* it says: "The particular itself, if measured directly, is the object to be taken; if measured indirectly, it is the object to be apprehended; both are also the object of entry when a person enters, because it is not deceptive." The meaning of "measured directly" is also known through the power of the words to be the meaning of "measuring manifestly." In short, when the two measures, direct and inferential, measure the unique particular, although the object to be measured in the way of entering has two aspects, particular and universal, the object to be measured of the object of entry is only the particular, this is the unerring meaning of "one's own characteristic is the only object to be measured," etc. Third, refuting disputes has two aspects: refuting disputes about the absence of an object for erroneous consciousness and refuting disputes about the object to be taken being a particular. The first has four aspects: refuting the contradiction of saying that the object to be measured is twofold, refuting the dispute that the universal of meaning and the non-manifest object are the same, refuting the statement that contradicts experience, refuting the fault that negation cannot be cognized by measure. The first is, the unique particular is the present

If the two are used as measurers, and the object of measurement is only the self-character, then is it contradictory to what the masters Dignāga and Dharmakīrti said that the object of measurement is two aspects? Answer: There is no contradiction. Because the same self-character has two ways of understanding: from the perspective of its own nature and from the perspective of altruistic generality, so it is established as two types: self-character and generality. That is, for the self, the state of self-character designated from its own side is established as the self, and the self-character itself is established as the self. The former is the self-character of the object, and the latter is the meaning of the self of the self-character of cognition. In order to cover both, the scripture says "self". If it is said that the former should not be the self of the self-character of the object, because it is a different entity from the object. Answer: There is no fault, because the self-character is the state designated from its own side, so it is called by the name of the self. The state that appears in cognition is not designated by the self-character from its own side, but is established by other habits, so it is said to be other. If you do not understand this key point, then the meaning of the scripture "That is the nature of self and other" cannot be understood even after a long time. Second, if the generality does not exist in the object, but if it is an object of measurement, then the fact that it does not exist is also obvious, is this the same as the above situation? Answer: There is no fault. Because the former is not a self-character, but relying on it can obtain access to the self-character of the object; while the latter, the self is not a self-character, and relying on it cannot obtain access to the self-character of the object. Third, if the two that appear are not self-characters, then is it contradictory to the clear appearance in cognition? Answer: There is no fault. Because in the part of the state that clearly appears in the conceptual mind, and the part that clings to it as an external object, the former is cognition and the latter is generality. As it is said: Because it is a suitable place, it is not recognized, because it recognizes itself, it is cognition. It is also said: If this generality is the nature of cognition, then it will become a fault if it is the nature of the object, so there is no fault because it is accepted as such. And in its commentary, it is said: Because it is the nature of cognition, the generality is also considered to be its own nature, if so, there is no contradiction. Again, how is it a generality? Answer: It is said: The generality of the nature of the object is established as a generality from the perspective of the nature of the object, not the nature of cognition.
