A General Presentation of the Views of Various Schools A General Presentation of the Views of Various Schools Fourth, distinguishing from the perspective of essence, there are two aspects regarding the two truths: a general presentation of the views of various schools, and a specific presentation of the views of the Sutra and Mind-Only schools. First, the Vaibhashika school believes that when something is broken down or analyzed with wisdom, if the mind of attachment does not arise, that is the characteristic of conventional truth. For example, when broken down, the mind of attachment does not arise, like a pot; when the eight subtle particles are separated by wisdom, the mind of attachment does not arise, like water known in the world. When something is broken down or analyzed with wisdom, if the mind of attachment arises, that is the characteristic of ultimate truth. For example, the sense-sphere of form. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Whatever is broken down or separated by wisdom, if the mind does not adhere to it, like a pot or water, it exists conventionally; the ultimate exists differently." Therefore, they say this. The Sautrantika school believes that the characteristic of the two truths is that which can function ultimately and that which cannot function. As stated, "What can function ultimately?" etc. The Mind-Only school believes that whatever is directly focused on and allows all afflictions to increase is the characteristic of conventional truth; whatever is directly focused on and pervades the increase of purification is considered the characteristic of ultimate truth. As stated in the Compendium of Topics: "The object that, when focused on, causes all afflictions to increase is conventionally existent." And, "The object that, when focused on, causes purification to increase is ultimately existent." Therefore, they say this. The Madhyamaka school believes that the object grasped by the grasping of correct seeing is the characteristic of ultimate truth. For example, the object grasped by the grasping of equipoise in the continuum of an Arya. The object grasped by the grasping of false seeing is the characteristic of conventional truth. For example, the object of a common person's mind. As stated in the Entrance to the Middle Way: "Through seeing what is real and false, the world obtains the nature of the two truths; what is seen as real is real, what is seen as false is called conventional." Therefore, they say this. Second, some scholars believe that both the Sutra and Mind-Only schools consider the two truths
