Its nature pervades all limits, existing within the blink of an eye. Moreover, atoms are gradually perfected by connecting with many atoms. Therefore, names are not truly existent, because their basis, letters, are not truly existent. Sentences are also not truly existent, because their basis, names, are not truly existent. If these are not truly existent, how should they be established? When sense consciousness separately grasps many limbs, the subsequent conceptual thought considers "this is a possessor of limbs," and the imputation of the object grasped is established as a possessor of limbs. When sense consciousness separately grasps previous and subsequent moments, the subsequent conceptual thought grasps these as one object, which is permanence. When auditory consciousness directly grasps the previous and subsequent moments of sound, the subsequent conceptual thought considers "this is A-O," and the object grasped in this way is a letter. When conceptual thought gathers many letters and imputes them as that which reveals the essence of a thing, that is a name. When many names are gathered and imputed as that which reveals the distinctions of a thing, that is a sentence. Pots and cloths, etc., are not truly existent, because each of the eight particles of a pot has its own unique effect, the ability to generate its own sense consciousness, and a common effect, the ability to perform the function of holding water. Because the latter is excluded from other things, it is established as a pot. Sound is truly existent, because the object grasped by auditory consciousness is established as sound. In short, when the function of holding water is established as the characteristic of a pot, it must be admitted that the smell of the pot, which is gathered together with the other particles of the pot, is the pot, because it has the function of holding water. For example, just as each blue particle gathered together with other blue particles can also produce its own effect, sense consciousness. Therefore, conventionally, a pot has the function of holding water, but ultimately it does not. Some scholars believe that, according to the view of the Pramāṇavārttika, names and sentences are not truly existent, but letters are truly existent, because they are the basis of both names and sentences, and because they arise sequentially from their own cause, intentional consciousness, and because they sequentially generate their own effect, auditory consciousness.

Because it is. Therefore, the treatise "The Nature of Letters, All Limits" states that even the shortest part of a letter, such as the short vowel "A," has many moments, but it does not say that each part is not a letter. That is what they think. So, name, phenomenon, should be real, because it is the basis for composing words. All three admit it. The treatise "Letters arise from intention," etc., cannot be used as proof that letters are real, because the meaning of that treatise is that each part of a letter arises sequentially from intention and produces sequential hearing. Because even the parts of the shortest part of a letter, such as the short vowel "A," are heard sequentially through multiple moments of hearing. Because, the mind also understands the letter gradually because of that moment. Because it is said so. Each part of a letter should not be a letter, because if a part of the shortest part of a letter, such as the short vowel "A," also exists for the duration of an eye blink, there would be a fault. So, if you think that each blue dust particle is also not blue, that is wrong. That is a rude attitude, because many blue dust particles gather together simultaneously and produce their own result, which is root consciousness. But the prior and subsequent moments of a letter cannot gather together simultaneously and produce their own result, which is root consciousness. Do not disturb Dharmakirti's treatises. Third, refuting other schools that believe that universals are non-real, divided into two parts: reality and debate. The first part is: Some people think that if it is a universal, it must be non-real; if one's own multiple differences cannot be established, then it is a universal, which is the view of the Seven Treatises. Therefore, all things such as form, sound, etc., and fire, water, etc., and vase, felt, etc., are all permanent. They say so. To refute this, there are five: direct perception, inference by the power of things, scripture, promise, and self-contradiction. The first is: sound, phenomenon, auditory direct perception does not establish that you are audible, because you are permanent. If you admit it, then the sound is not audible, which becomes negated by auditory direct perception. The second is that the inference by the power of things negates that sound is permanent, because from the sign of being produced, sound
