The dharma should be clearly apparent to valid cognition because it is the object of appearance of valid cognition. The subject is established because the basis is established. Furthermore, the object of measurement should not be a universal characteristic because that valid cognition is not direct perception. Furthermore, the dharma should be direct perception, being either direct perception or inference, because it is not inference. If that is not established, then valid cognition should not be limited to two, direct perception and inference. Thus it is said. Then, a person should be a noble being because they are an individual who directly realizes selflessness. If the sign-pervasion is not established, then selflessness should be directly realized by a person because it is the object of direct perception in the continuum of that person. The subject is established because the basis is established. This is successively acknowledged. Secondly, the object of measurement should not be a universal characteristic because that valid cognition is not inference. According to the pervasion relation of this proof, this should be directly acknowledged. Thirdly, a person should be a noble being, being either an ordinary being or a noble being, because they are not an ordinary being. If that is not established, then the person should not be limited to two, ordinary being and noble being, it is the same. A sentient being should be a lower realm being, being either a lower realm being or a higher realm being, because it is not a higher realm being. And so forth, endlessly. Therefore, fearing that the definite number of valid cognitions would be harmed, to assert that valid cognition is direct perception is even worse than the non-Buddhists, because the non-Buddhists either say that inference as a valid cognition does not have an established basis, so if it is a valid cognition, it is pervaded by direct perception, or they think of the wisdom that realizes color is impermanent and the wisdom that recognizes seeing differences, etc., as a third aggregate of valid cognition that is not included in either direct perception or inference, thus it seems to obstruct the definite number of valid cognitions, and from grasping the general valid cognition, no one has obstructed the definite number of valid cognitions. Who are you, a wrong speaker whom even glorious Dharmakirti could not refute? In my view, the former opponent, glorious Dharmakirti, and the later opponents, logicians and Vaisheshikas, etc., when the intelligent opponents make the establishment of the definite number, the idea that grasping the pervasion in the definite number is the intention of the doctrine. They are examples of those who cling to mere words without any aim and do not make the establishment of refutation and establishment.

Because it is to grasp the point of "being a cow", thereby carrying out the debate of whether or not it is included in the determination of the number of valid cognitions. Nowadays, for children, when determining the individual number of a single classification object, for those who ask which individual of the classification that classification object is included in, it is necessary to say temporarily that if it is a valid cognition, then it does not pervade either perception or inference. At that time, if it is established as a substance, then it does not pervade either being one substance or any of the many substances. But for the faults of refuting after analyzing whether the general characteristic and appearance are one substance or many substances, it is not the same as oneself. Because others admit that that tree is also the general characteristic that follows all tree appearances, and also admit that it is the common basis for being established as a substance. But although I admit that the tree is established as a substance, I do not admit that it is the general characteristic that follows all tree appearances. For this, the way the opponent understands and establishes it is as before. Also, some say that although the general characteristic and appearance based on things are one substance, the refutations in the scriptures that the general characteristic and appearance are one substance are not the same as oneself. Because others, like "also not having later parts", admit that there is no part of the general characteristic, therefore it must be admitted that the two general characteristics and appearances are indivisible substances, and it has also been admitted, therefore that is what is refuted, and merely that the two general characteristics and appearances are one substance is not what is refuted. Some say that it is refuted that the two are inseparable substances. Some say that it is refuted that the two are easily established substances, and coextensive substances, and that they are coextensive substances. There are these five sayings. For the first, the subject, the indivisible of the direction of the atom, is the blue atom and the indivisible substance, it follows. Because the indivisible of the direction, it is a substance with it. For the second, does the meaning of inseparable substance refer to the substance being inseparable, or does it refer to the reverse being inseparable? If it is the former, then the subject, the tree, is inseparable from Shapa, it follows. Being a substance with Shapa, if it is a substance, then it must be a substance that is inseparable. If it is the latter, then even the outsiders do not admit that the two are reverses that are inseparable, therefore refuting that is meaningless. If it is the third, then when asked what the meaning of easily established substance refers to? The answer is, any substance, arising and ceasing simultaneously.
