, i.e., direct perception, the real. The erroneous aspect similar to direct perception. It is the valid cognition and its result. The first has three: definition, the division of what is to be explained, and the meaning of each basis of definition. The first has two: refutation and establishment. The first is: Kyapa and others separate direct perception and direct valid cognition, and the definition of the first is: wisdom that is free from conceptualization and not deceptive. The definition of the latter is: for things not previously understood, cutting off superimposition by the power of experience. This is unreliable because dividing into two is not mentioned in the scriptures, and there is no determination for what was not previously understood, and cutting off superimposition is impossible in the self-aspect of direct perception. The second has two: the actual definition and determining its meaning. The first is: if from the perspective of eliminating misperception, wisdom that is free from conceptualization and not deceptive, or if from the perspective of eliminating dissimilar kinds, wisdom that is not deceptive, that is the definition of direct perception. That itself is also the definition of direct valid cognition, because the Pramāṇavārttika says: direct perception is free from conceptualization and not deceptive. And, because from the perspective that it itself is a valid cognition, no other definition of direct valid cognition is given. The second has three: determining the meaning of being free from conceptualization, determining the meaning of being not deceptive, and determining the meaning of both. The first has two: determining the conceptualization to be separated, and the way of separating from it. The first is: in general, in all scriptures, there are three statements about conceptualization: non-veridical imputation, conceptualization with a coarse mental state, and conceptualization that grasps sound and meaning mixed together. The first is not the conceptualization to be separated, because all sense consciousnesses of ordinary beings are it. The second is also not, because the yoga direct perception that relies on the actual state of the first dhyana is with it. Therefore, it should be established as the third, here it also says: whatever knowledge grasps sound and meaning, that is its conceptualization. And, the Pramāṇavārttika says: What is cognition? Conceptualization is knowledge with obvious expression. Conceptualization is knowledge that can be mixed with expression, it is separated from it. Then, what is the necessity of saying "possible" in the Pramāṇavārttika? To this, some Indians say it is to include the conceptualization in the mindstream of children who are not proficient in symbols.

Because, the wisdom that grasps sound and meaning does not pervade it. Saying this is the same for the other side, because the wisdom that grasps possibility does not pervade the conceptualization in the continuum of the old man who indicates the blind. If it is said that there is no fault in establishing it on the category of grasping possibility, then it is the same for the former, because it is established on the category of grasping mixture. Then how is it? The mixture of sound and meaning is not mixed in meaning, but in the face of conceptualization, it can appear as the meaning of mixture. Therefore, these two are not opposite in meaning, so there is no difference in grasping either, considering this, the Commentary on Valid Cognition says "grasping mixture," and the Ascertainment of Validity says "grasping possibility." In short, it should be known that the definition of conceptualization that needs to be eliminated here, and the clinging mind that grasps the mixture of sound and meaning, the clinging mind that grasps the possible mixture of sound and meaning, the clinging mind that grasps sound and meaning, and the clinging mind that grasps the general meaning, these are no different. Second, some people think that it is unreasonable to be separated from the entity of conceptualization, because if so, the self-awareness direct perception that experiences conceptualization will become not separated from conceptualization, which is a fault. Others think that it is unreasonable to be separated from the opposite of conceptualization, because if so, inference will also become separated from conceptualization, which is a fault. The view of our own school is that it does not rely on self-contradiction as the definition of conceptualization, and its meaning is that when self-character is taken as the basis, the previous definition is not complete. Second, some people, like the Mind-Only school, think that not deceiving is reasonable, which is unreasonable, because inference is also not deceiving. Some people think that taking true meaning as the object is also unreasonable, if it is thought that taking true meaning as the object, then inference will also become not mistaken, which is a fault, if it is thought that taking general meaning as the object, then self-awareness and yogic direct perception cannot pervade. Some people think that not being confused about the object of grasping is also unreasonable, because the previous fault still exists. The view of our own school is, as it is said in the Ascertainment of Validity: "Not being confused about it means not being confused by illusions such as blurred vision, rapid rotation, and boarding a boat," just like this, not being confused by the causes of illusion such as root, object, and action. Then conceptualization will also become not confusing, because confusing
