The tenets of viewpoints. The tenet of holding only self-determination. The tenet of holding that both exist. The first is: Brahmins say, "Even if it is established from valid cognition, it is not from that very valid cognition itself." This means that although the two valid cognitions each determine their respective objects of engagement, they do not lead to the certainty of the non-deceptive characteristic by their own power. Therefore, the intellect that arises after valid cognition, called "the wise," determines the general characteristic and contradictory relationships, etc. Therefore, the characteristic of valid cognition is determined only by others, they think. The second is that some people think that other-determined valid cognition is impossible. If the valid cognition to be determined and the valid cognition that determines are the same object, then the later valid cognition is meaningless. If they are different, then the object becomes another entity, so it will not become another entity. If the valid cognition that is considered other-determined does not cut off superimposition, then it is not valid cognition. If it cuts off, then it becomes self-determined valid cognition. If it is certain, then if it is valid cognition, it is necessarily self-determined valid cognition, they say. The third is divided into two ways: dividing from the perspective of the subject and dividing from the perspective of the object. The first is divided into two ways: dividing from the perspective of what is to be expressed and dividing from the perspective of the characteristic. The first is that some translators and others say that for the term of oneself being a valid cognition, self-determination and other-determination are established based on whether one can or cannot lead to certainty by one's own power. The second is that some people think that it is not divided from the perspective of the object, because if one cannot cut off superimposition on the object, then it is not valid cognition. If one cuts off, then there is the fault of falling into self-determination. For the way of dividing from the perspective of the subject, it is also not divided from the perspective of the basis of designation and what is to be expressed, because the basis of designation is the occasion for explaining the valid cognition that determines the characteristic. Therefore, it is necessary to divide from the perspective of the characteristic. Self-determination and other-determination are established based on whether one leads to certainty that oneself is not deceptive by one's own power or by the power of others, they say. The second is that some people think that it is divided from the perspective of the object. Self-determination and other-determination are established based on whether one leads to certainty about one's own object of engagement by one's own power or by the power of others, they say. Thus, among the five views divided from the three tenets, the first is unreasonable, because all the commentaries unanimously explain inference as self-determined valid cognition.

Therefore. If the two valid cognitions remain as they measure their respective objects, then they must be able to generate certainty by their own power. Therefore, they must also be able to generate certainty that they are not deceptive with respect to that object by their own power. The second view is also unreasonable because some perceptions, although they perceive all the objects of their own realm, cannot generate certainty by their own power, because subsequent conceptualizations falsely add to them. Furthermore, the Outsider, after refuting the view that "if it is a valid cognition, then it is invariably a self-ascertaining valid cognition," said: What do you yourselves desire? We do not desire that all are self-ascertaining, because some valid cognitions are ascertained by others; nor do we desire that all are other-ascertained, because some valid cognitions are self-ascertained. The third view is also unreasonable. The inference in the continuum of the Distant Projector, being the subject, should be able to generate certainty by its own power that it possesses the name of being a valid cognition, because it is a self-ascertaining valid cognition. If you accept this, then the Distant Projector must necessarily ascertain that the inference in his own continuum has the name of being a valid cognition. The fourth view is also unreasonable because it has the three faults of the subsequent valid cognition being meaningless, the prior valid cognition not being a valid cognition, and inference also being able to be divided into two. Firstly, does the certainty that ascertains the object of the prior valid cognition, which is generated by the prior valid cognition, ascertain that the prior valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to the object, or does it not ascertain it? If it is the former, then if it is a valid cognition, it must be a self-ascertaining valid cognition. If it is a valid cognition, then it invariably has the ability to generate certainty about its object by its own power. And whoever can generate certainty about their object by their own power must also be able to generate certainty that they are not deceptive by their own power. Both reasons are accepted. If it is the latter, then the certainty about its object, which is generated by the self-ascertaining valid cognition, should not ascertain that the self-ascertaining valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to the object. What is the acceptance of that? Because such a certainty has no other power than the power to ascertain that the self-ascertaining valid cognition is not deceptive with respect to the object. Secondly, the perception that apprehends the red glow from afar when one is wondering whether it is fire or not, being the subject, the aspect of the red glow being the color of fire should not be a valid cognition, because certainty by its own power
